Right. I was able to reproduce this using the netinst CD, answering
'norwegian', 'norway', 'norway - latin1', then aborting the DHCP
configuration and setting some bogus manual IP configuration. I
selected Main-Server only as the profile. The installer continues
without any errors and one end up with a broken Main-Server.

Just to be clear and for future reference. The netinst installation
_require_ Internet connection to work properly. If you lack Internet
connection, you have to use the DVD to install.

The natural place is in the debian-edu-profile script in the
debian-edu-profile-udeb package, where it already try to use the
Internet and know if it is working.

I'm not sure if this is a bug we want to fix for Squeeze, but we should
try to address it for Wheezy.

Yes.

If the network is left unconfigured during mainserver-only-installation (or
network is manual configured but no cable is connected), there is no message
that informs anything .. and with the first boot, the installation/admin runs
into the 'error' Bug#655304 described.

But, the work in there seams to be, to know where/how to initiate/put a
message, to inform about, and handle a non-existing internet connection.

Are you saying your problem show up when you use netinst CD to install
on a network without Internet connection? If so, we should handle it
more gracefully.

Great. But lets try to figure out what went wrong with this
installation now to ensure others do not experience the same problem.

Yes, sorry for my noise!
Further installations are running .. nice'n good - so far .. after rsync'ing
the .iso-file, burning on an other installation-medium/cd(rw) AND being sure
about the access to internet while running installation!

Next feedback will be, at last in the technical way, more self-critical.

I do not see this when I test, and the installation seem to be
seriously broken as lsb_release is missing on the system. Please
provide the content of /var/log/installer/ for us to see what went
wrong.

Which answers were given to the installation time questions? Which
language, keymap, profiles, etc.?

Bug#655304: 'exim4 failed' / libsasl2-modules-gssapi.. -> Can't bind to ldap server..

2012-01-09 Thread Mike Gabriel

package: debian-edu-config
severity: normal
version: squeeze/beta2

TRANSLATED BUG REPORT: This issue was reported on the German
Skolelinux user list by ,,Maxen, Christian '' (in
German) and translated by Mike Gabriel into English.

Summary: exim4 start up fails due to GSSAPI problems

Installation profile: main-server (only!)
Installation medium was: debian-edu-6.0.3+edub2-CD.iso

Error message on first boot:

-8<--
Starting MTA:2012-01-09 23:30:25 Exim configuration error for auth_gssapi
authenticator: Cyrus SASL doesn't know about mechanism gssapi.
Warning! Invalit configuration file for exim4. Exitingfailed.
Can't bind to ldap server ldap: Invalid argument
Running debian-edu-config run-at-fisrtboot/usr/sbin/debian-edu-pxeinstall: 56:
lsb_release: not found
.
Not collecting testsuite results.
startpar: service(s) returned failure: exim4 ... failed!
->8--

After manually installing 'libsasl2-modules-gssapi-mit' the message
changed into:

-8<--
Starting MTA: exim4.
ALERT: exim paniclog /var/log/exim4/paniclog has non-zero size, mail system
possibly broken ... failed!
Can't bind to ldap server ldap: Invalid argument
->8--

Putting the below in line in APT's sources.lists:
deb http://ftp.skolelinux.org/skolelinux squeeze-test local

... and then running ,,aptitude update'' + system reboot did not bring
any improvements.

Comments/questions from Mike while translating:

1. Christian, die you only run aptitude update? Or also aptitude upgrade?
2.
