Well, I don't really see how dpkg can be doing this, I've tried to
reproduce it anyway by upgrading from libsensors4, lm-sensors 1:3.3.1-1
to 1:3.3.1-2 (just in case), and I don't get the file to disappear. My
take is that either the submitter accidentaly removed the file w/o
noticing, there was some kind of disk corruption, or something else
removed that file during that upgrade, maybe a package from a third
party repository...

W/o more information and a reproducible test case, I fear there's not
much more that can be done, and as consequence the only remaining course
of action would be to close this report in a bit.

thanks,
guillem

Bug#659026: lm-sensors: own sensors file removed while upgrading ( /etc/sensors.d )

reassign 659026 dpkg
retitle 659026 dpkg removes non-dpkg handled files during upgrade
tag 659026 - moreinfo
thanks

Hi dpkg folks,

Here is a bug report concerning a file non handled by dpkg, in a
directory installed by a package (namely /etc/sensors.d/) that has been
lost during an upgrade. Given there is a .placeholder file in this
directory and that nothing in the maintainer scripts remove files, it
might be a dpkg issue. Therefore I am reassigning the bug there.

Bug#659026: lm-sensors: own sensors file removed while upgrading ( /etc/sensors.d )

2012-02-07 Thread Louis
Package: lm-sensors
Version: 1:3.3.1-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
   * What was the outcome of this action?
   * What outcome did you expect instead?

*** End of the template - remove these lines ***

-- System Information:
Debian Release: wheezy/sid
  APT prefers testing
  APT policy: (990, 'testing')
Architecture: amd64 (x86_64)

Kernel: Linux 3.1.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores)
Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8)
Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash

Versions of packages lm-sensors depends on:
ii libc62.13-24
ii libsensors4 1:3.3.1-2
ii lsb-base 3.2-28.1
ii perl 5.14.2-6
ii sed 4.2.1-9

lm-sensors recommends no packages.

Versions of packages lm-sensors suggests:
pn fancontrol
pn i2c-tools
pn read-edid
pn sensord

-- no debconf information

The own file i created for my mainboard, placed in /etc/sensors.d was removed
after upgrading to this version.
This should not happen.
