thanks for your bug report. Could you please file it in the munin trac bug
tracker? If not, I will, but as you know way better about your problem, it
would be better if you'd do it ;-) To do that, go to

 http://munin-monitoring.org/newticket

 which (sadly) needs

 http://munin-monitoring.org/register

When you've done this, please send a short mail to 663...@bugs.debian.org
mentioning the ticket number you got.

Hi Holger,

Ticket is 1209:
http://munin-monitoring.org/ticket/1209

Also, have you seen http://munin-monitoring.org/wiki/rrdcached ?

Yes thanks, that's primarily what I used to get rrcached going. Bit fiddly but
got there.

Incidentally, contrary to the bug report, using rrdcached didn't totally work
around the problem. It was a little faster which meant it sometimes worked. To
fully work around the problem, I reduced the number of partitions diskstats was
scanning by filtering out the LVM snapshots we use for backups.

Thanks for your help and for packaging munin. Much appreciated. :-).

Ronny

great, thanks. I've now linked the Debian bug to the munic trac ticket, so the
Debian bug will get notified when trac changes :)

Bug#663970: munin-node ignores timeout config option

2012-03-14 Thread Ronny Adsetts
Package: munin-node
Version: 1.999.4603-1
Severity: normal

This is for munin* from experimental on Squeeze.

My system runs under quite a heavy load for most of the day and has lots of
partitions. This results in the diskstats plugin taking lots of time to run.

When munin starts writing the rrd data out, munin-node times out its connection
resulting in no further graphs being drawn for that host. The timeout is the
default 5 seconds. Adding timeout 30 to munin-node-conf has no effect.
Telneting to munin-node fconfirms the timeout remains 5 seconds.

Running munin-update manaully results in the following trimmed output:

munin@vimes:~$ /usr/share/munin/munin-update --nofork --debug --host vimes

2012/03/14 10:31:46 [FETCH from diskstats] Storing 1.759004 in avgwrrqsz

2012/03/14 10:31:52 [WARNING] Failed worker
amazing-internet.net;vimes.amazing-internet.net

In the end I worked around this by figuring out how to use rrdcached which
prevents the 5 second timeout being hit.

Let me know if you need any further information.

Ronny
