Bug#673717: clementine: should build-depend on libprotobuf-dev, protobuf-compiler, libqca2-dev (for Spotify support)

2012-05-30 Thread Thomas Pierson
severity 673717 wishlist
thanks

Hello Dave,

Thomas Pierson, please read the launchpad bug.

Done.

 The clementine dev said
that the Spotify plugin will build without libspotify and then
clementine will take care of the non-GPL parts.

I understand but I can't add new build-depends on Clementine
package just for building a plugin which depends on a proprietary
software. I think this is not a valid reason considering the Debian
guidelines.

Considering the Debian Free Software Guidelines, Debian is a operating
system build under a coherent free software context. I don't want to
encourage people using an external proprietary library. This can cause
side effects on Clementine (and on other packages) that we will not be
able to solve.

Instead of that, I prefer encourage people who works on a free
implementation of this library : 'libopenspotify'. [1] [2]
Maybe Clementine will be able to use it in the future.

Best regards,

Thomas Pierson

Hello Dave,

The Spotify support also needs 'libspotify' library which does not seem
to have a free software license. So I think this library can't be
packaged in Debian. [1]

For this reason, I can't add Spotify support to Clementine.

Best regards,
Thomas Pierson

Bug#673717: clementine: should build-depend on libprotobuf-dev, protobuf-compiler, libqca2-dev (for Spotify support)

2012-05-20 Thread Dave Lentz
Package: clementine
Version: 1.0.1+dfsg-1+b1
Severity: normal

Title explains it: clementine: should build-depend on libprotobuf-dev,
protobuf-compiler, libqca2-dev (for Spotify support)
Also, clementine configure checks for libqtwekbit-dev (though I'm not sure
which feature this enables).
