Bug#677937: apt: Please update Greek translation

Greek debian-l10n-gr...@lists.debian.org is responsible for the Greek translation. We do not use translations from Ubuntu/launchpad. The reason is simply that we can't, even if we would want to. Hunting for patches in derivatives to merge them upstream is a problem already we can barly achieve - and it is generally preferable if the derivative comes to us to propose their changes. But such merges are easy compared to merging po files as the patches are usually written in a language we can understand (C/C++), but I am not familiar with Greek or the other ~45 languages APT is translated to, so I can't compare the strings and identify which one is the (more) correct one and/or if it is just a stylistic change: Different translation teams might have different style-guides they follow to ensure that the same word is translated in the same way everywhere to not confuse a reader by using a million different words with a similar meaning for exactly the same thing… So i would be merging a black box from a random location on the web in the hope that it is an improvement … That can't be the right procedure. We therefore really on people who can actually understand the content of the file they are working on, which in this case is the mentioned greek-l10n list: debian-l10n-gr...@lists.debian.org. The last recorded translator is quad-nrg.net yod...@quad-nrg.net, but the last update is from 2008, so it should be okay to write a mail to the list (and the previous translator) with an intention to take over the translation. Make sure to attach your po to this mail and ask for review. After a hopefully healthy discussion which made the translation even more perfect come back to this place and open a bug against apt (for bonus points add the tag l10n for this bug) and we will be happy to merge it which will then automatically be used by all debian derivatives, so that the maximum amount of people benefit from your contribution. :) (In the meantime i am closing this bugreport - as said, feel free to reopen it or open a new one after the review.)
