Bug#686185: #686185: ITP: fortuner
Hello. Okay, now it seems I have lost my interest on fortuner package (ITP: [1], RFS: [2]). To get rid of this package, do I just close ITP and RFS bugs, remove from mentors, and for the Git repository, is removing the directory /git/pkg-games/fortuner.git from git.debian.org enough? However, if anyone seems interested, there is now a successor: fortuner2 [3] (a shell script :D) and it's available as a deb from my Launchpad personal package archive [4]. And I haven't deleted the original fortuner either. It actually is not. It just has a system tray icon :) * Why a big C++ app for something that can be accomplished with a single line of shell? (Which is also easier to tweak, if I want more choice than fortune -s and fortune -s -a) This was started as a learning project, I wanted to learn some C++ code. But, I thought that someone not very familiar with shell, or someone who prefers graphical UI might find this and maybe even use it, so I released it under a free license. And for a C++ I don't know if this actually is that big. Furthermore, there are a couple of shortcomings I see: * It does not respect XDG_HOME at all, the default config file is hardcoded to $HOME/.config/fortuner/fortuner.conf * The application is completely untranslatable (then again, fortune itself isn't translated either, but that has less messages of its own, too). These shortcomings will need to be fixed (probably you meant XDG_CONFIG_HOME). But, in the end, my main issue is that it really is not much more than a ~20 line shell script, except it is in C++. So instead of packaging this, I would suggest writing a shell script instead, and putting that in fortune-mod (along with a Suggests: on libnotify-bin). This could be an option. I hadn't really considered that. Thank you for your reply and criticism. Regards Juhani Numminen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
