Bug#686628: lnrename: rename.pl sibling to "rename" symlink targets

2012-09-03 Thread G.raud
Package: perl
Version: 5.14.2-12
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

I modified the Perl distribution file shipped with Debian that is named
rename(.pl), so that it renames the target inside symlinks.  It is joined
to this message.

The modified script, lnrename, is very useful when rename.pl is used and there
are symbolic links pointing to the renamed files, since a similar command can
fix broken symlinks.

In Debian there is currently nothing similar available yet, to my knowledge, at
least nothing that is not graphical.

I think it should be included in the perl deb because it is based on rename
that is already there.  If it cannot, can you suggest a package that could
include it?

The name `lnrename' is just a suggestion.

I'm afraid I don't have a good answer to this question, but this
doesn't belong in the perl package unless (and I am doubtful)
you can persuade a perl committer to add this upstream.

Cheers,
Dominic.
