Carsten - Sorry don't know what you mean by top posting.

Top-Posting is one of the horrible things that come with the practical
HTML Webmailers or by people that only knowing MS Outlook. But
top-posting makes it hard to find the relevant info from reporters like
you. :)

Here a short copy about top-posting and why don't to use it.

A3: Please.
Q3: Should I avoid top posting on mailing lists etc.?

A2: Because, by reversing the order of a conversation, it leaves the
reader without much context, and makes them read a message in an
unnatural order.
Q2: Why is top posting irritating?

A1: It is the practice of putting your reply to a message before the
quoted message, instead of after the (trimmed) message.
Q1: What is top posting?

I don't have
icedove. But for me the issue is resolved since installing Wheezy
RC1. I checked there are no l10n packages installed on my end.
Perhaps they were being installed by default and are no longer
installed by default. I cannot confirm regarding icedove.

Hmm, o.k. You don't use Icedove but Iceweasel, so you can't have the
issue that reported by this bug in Icedove.
Some short explanation how the l10n package works. The l10n packages of
Icedove provides own localization files. In detail it is just one file
for each language - language-[LANGUAGE]@thunderbird.mozilla.org.xpi.

$ dpkg -L icedove-l10n-de | grep xpi
/usr/share/icedove/extensions/langpack...@thunderbird.mozilla.org.xpi
/usr/lib/icedove/extensions/langpack...@thunderbird.mozilla.org.xpi
$ file /usr/lib/icedove/extensions/langpack...@thunderbird.mozilla.org.xpi
/usr/lib/icedove/extensions/langpack...@thunderbird.mozilla.org.xpi: symbolic
link to
`../../../share/icedove/extensions/langpack...@thunderbird.mozilla.org.xpi'
$ file /usr/share/icedove/extensions/langpack...@thunderbird.mozilla.org.xpi
/usr/share/icedove/extensions/langpack...@thunderbird.mozilla.org.xpi: Zip
archive data, at least v1.0 to extract

That files ships all localizations for Icedove and only for Icedove. It
contains all files in a zipped format that Icedove extract while
starting. So the localization of Icedove (and Iceweasel as well) is
completely independent from the hunspell package.

If there are problems with the spell checking functions of
Icedove(/Iceweasel) then we have to look first if something inside the
prefs.js is responsible for that problems because other user of Icedove
would have the same problem with the spell checking in there language
while the functions inside Icedove to use external spell packages are
the same. The best way is to start with a fresh empty profile to
eliminate errors provoked by a corrupted prefs.js.

O.k. as you say you have no (more) problems with this spell checking
functions on Icedove we have to ask Arthur and John if they have any
problems with this on Icedove.

If not I will reassign this bug to Iceweasel.

Hello Carsten - I just recently installed the latest Wheezy RC1 and the issue
seems to be addressed. In my case, the English spell check is enabled by
default.

Maybe there is really a issue with the finish language package. In the
between times there are some new releases of the current 10.x branch
from Mozilla released. This issue happen also with the current version
10.0.12-1 and suitable l10n packges?

If you you can follow the hints from the wiki [1] an post them here in a
packed fiel format. Hopefully there is something to see.

If you don't have installed any l10n package ... that's normal.
So what is the problem? Anything wrong inside Icedove? If there are no
more issues then this report can be closed.
