I had that one in mind:
  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=698322#47
  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=698322#52

Yes, thanks for the pointer. Se let's keep this bug (#704853) open to
track auto-detection of WEP vs PSK. Btw, #700924 is about my bonus
point idea of having a "display password" toggle.

/Simon

#700834 may be what you are looking for.

Yes, there is something somewhere else. Can't find it either, though.

Probably possible, but turning this into a wishlist bug against netcfg
(one more..:-)).

I can't find a pointer right now, but that was discussed on this list
already, and yes, it would indeed by nice to have. That would mean
implementing some bits on the debconf side, too.

That I don't know.

Bug#704853: Wheezy RC1 i386 on Dell Precision M65 laptop

2013-04-06 Thread Simon Josefsson
Package: installation-reports

Boot method: CD
Image version: debian-wheezy-DI-rc1-i386-netinst.iso
Date: 2013-04-06

Machine: Dell Precision M65 laptop
Processor: Intel T2500
Memory: 1.5GB

Base System Installation Checklist:
[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it

Initial boot: [O]
Detect network card:[O]
Configure network: [E]
Detect CD: [O]
Load installer modules: [O]
Detect hard drives: [O]
Partition hard drives: [O]
Install base system:[O]
Clock/timezone setup: [O]
User/password setup:[O]
Install tasks: [O]
Install boot loader:[O]
Overall install:[O]

Comments/Problems:

This was a graphical install of debian-wheezy-DI-rc1-i386-netinst.iso on
a Dell Precision M65 laptop, using Swedish localisation, and with
non-free iwl3945 wireless drivers loaded from a USB stick during
installation.

The installation completed fine but I had two minor issues/concerns:

1) The WLAN password is displayed on screen. User account passwords are
not displayed on screen, so presumably it is a bug for WLAN passwords to
be displayed. Bonus points for a "Display password" button to toggle
display of the password.

2) Wouldn't it be possible to auto-detect WEP vs PSK2 instead of asking?

Thanks,
Simon
