I agree that Recommending gnumeric-doc is better than suggesting.
This will be corrected with next upload.

To me arguments how ubuntu handles this (and why) are irrelevant.
Furthermore I will not let such considerations to influence my
decision making.

Although in this case the benefits of the change are pretty obvious,
for other reports it would be more convincing if you mention how it is
better for those who use gnumeric in Debian and why (without
mentioning ubuntu).

Ubuntu has carried a diff from Debian since 2008 to have gnumeric
recommend (instead of merely suggest) gnumeric-doc. I think Debian
users would benefit from this change too and it would make things
easier for Ubuntu users and developers if new versions didn't have to
be manually merged from Debian to Ubuntu.
