Bug#714290: [Pkg-nagios-devel] Bug#714290: package does not ship any documentation
Just hit this problem too. Upstream apparently keeps documentation on Sourceforge, which has been down for some time (multiple days). I installed this in the mistaken belief it would provide documentation..! Odd that Debian would ship, essentially, an empty package. -- One can never know for sure what a deserted area looks like - George Carlin -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#714290: [Pkg-nagios-devel] Bug#714290: package does not ship any documentation
Greetings, Just ran into this issue, finally upgraded my personal monitoring setup to wheezy. Documentation for the actual version in use is very desirable to have available, sometimes details are lost where the upstream removes doco covering the that version. Also always Debian-specific info to be easily declared, such as sudden inclusion of exfoliation (my eyes!! just kidding). There's also the opportunity where maybe the system in question doesn't have Internet access (rare these days, I agree). As far as upstream requesting this, minor marketing smell to it. severity 714290 important thanks On Thu, 27 Jun 2013, Raf Czlonka wrote: Package: nagios3-doc Version: 3.4.1-4 Severity: grave Hi, After installing the package I get an error message: Error in `/usr/share/doc-base/nagios3', line 9: all `Format' sections are invalid. This is due to the fact that the above file references HTML files which simply do not exists. Moreover, the package doesn't ship any documentation. Upstream thought it was a good idea to remove the docs. I'll either remove that package or replace it. And I don't think missing docs are a grave bug. I didn't realise you had it automated to such a degree :^) Thank you. And I don't think missing docs are a grave bug. From Debian official documentation: grave makes the package in question unusable or mostly so, or causes data loss, or introduces a security hole allowing access to the accounts of users who use the package. So yes, the severity is *exactly* at 'grave' level as per makes the package in question unusable or mostly so as the package *is* unusable. As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing in the Debian Policy which makes bugs in certain types of packages, i.e. '*-doc', etc., less *important*.
