Bug#719329: vlc: Crackling sound at the begining of anything that VLC plays.

2014-05-12 Thread Ross Vandegrift
Package: vlc
Version: 2.0.3-5
Followup-For: Bug #719329

Hello,

This problem is reproducible on my laptop with vlc 2.0.3-5. Like the original
poster, vlc is the only software affected. Unlike the original poster, the
crackling only lasts a few seconds. I've attached the log from vlc
--extraintf=logger --log-verbose=2147483647 --logfile=vlc.log test.ogg

I tried vlc 2.1.2-2+b3 in a jessie chroot. There is a new kind of artifact at
the beginning of playback, but this problem is gone.

Hello,

It would be more helpful to post verbose VLC logs of the playback problem than
to troll the developers. In the mean time, I could be as (in)constructive as
you and simply blame PulseAudio or your ALSA driver.

Regards,

Bug#719329: vlc: Crackling sound at the begining of anything that VLC plays.

2013-08-10 Thread José Luis F . Triana García
Package: vlc
Version: 2.0.3-5
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

I installed Debian Wheezy with KDE... it included the phonon vlc backend by
deafult, every KDE system sound sounded like shit.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

First I didn't noticed that the problem was VLC, until I installed Clemetine
and I installed the gstreamer phonon backend as well... kicked out the shitty
phonon-vlc backend, and vuala! no cracking sound in KDE system sounds.

So, from time to time when I play something with this overrated piece of crap
(VLC), I have a disgusting noise at the beggining of anything; a flv video, an
avi video, mpg, etc... even with theora and vorbis media, I still hear the
crackling for about 30 seconds to 1 minute and a half.

So I thought that the problem was pulseaudio, as always, everybody blames
pulseaudio for sound problems, they maybe right; but this time is not
pulseaudio, I had changed the output to ALSA, and I heard a worse crackling and
lasted more time, so I set pulseaudio back.

   * What was the outcome of this action?

Disgusting crackling sound at the first 30-120 seconds of anything just with
VLC.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

To hear a clean sound as I do with everything that uses GStreamer.

   * Would you upgrade your Debian distribution?, that's because a newer
package of vlc exists in unstable, and the bug may not be present there...

No, even If I am crazy I will never upgrade to an unstable distribution, so why
you release a stable distribution, if nobody will use it?.

   * Do you have any additional information?

Yes! of course, this is my Codec:
Codec: VIA VT1708B 8-Ch
