Bug#720331: libnet-ldap-perl depends on libwww-perl. Why?
Hi all, feature 'LWP support for the LDAP protocol family' requires LWP::Protocol which is provided by libwww-perl. So I think that libwww-perl must be kept either on Depends: or Recommends: Regards, Xavier -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#720331: libnet-ldap-perl depends on libwww-perl. Why?
Package: libnet-ldap-perl Version: 1:0.4400-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, * What led up to the situation? I installed libnet-ldap-perl in order to query a ldap database * What was the outcome of this action? libwww-perl was installed, leading to a whole mess of dependancies * What outcome did you expect instead? Just a few little things. Does libnet-ldap-perl realy need libwww-perl and all it's 20-odd dependancies? -- System Information: Debian Release: 7.1 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) (ignored: LC_ALL set to C) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages libnet-ldap-perl depends on: ii libconvert-asn1-perl0.26-1 ii libwww-perl 6.04-1 ii perl [libmime-base64-perl] 5.14.2-21 libnet-ldap-perl recommends no packages. When we (Debian Perl team) took over maintenance of libnet-ldap-perl in 2008, it already had the dependency on libwww-perl. However, the package never had a build-dependency on libwww-perl until very recently, and as far as I can see, modules from libwww-perl are referenced only in conjunction with optional features (specifically, for use of the LWP::Protocol::ldap, LWP::Protocol::ldaps, or LWP::Protocol::ldapi modules). So I think the dependency on libwww-perl is indeed bogus, and can be lowered to Suggests. Florian -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
