Bug#736471: okular: Many documents lead to extreme slow down/no display

wr This is (possibly) not a bug in okular. I can't reproduce it at home, but I
used to see this behavior in $job. It seems that okular hangs while looking
for a printer, normally not a local one but a shared one.

Have you tried opening the pdf with your network disabled?

I just tried opening the document with the network disabled, and it
was indeed fast. But why does it only happen with certain documents?
That suggests it might be something that okular is doing.

Best,
Dylan

Bug#736471: okular: Many documents lead to extreme slow down/no display

2014-01-23 Thread Dylan Thurston
Package: okular
Version: 4:4.11.3-1+b1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

For a couple weeks, the unstable version of okular has been extremely
slow opening certain documents. Most of the documents were non-public,
but I just came across a public document with this behaviour:

http://media.scgp.stonybrook.edu/newsletter/SCGP_Newsletter_fall_2013-web.pdf

On my system, this document display a blank gray screen for about 30
seconds when opened. Strace reveals that it is spending a lot of time
reading the cups configuration. I've attached the bzip'ed strace
output.

Note that this does not happen with most documents.

Thanks,
Dylan Thurston

I don't know of a solution though :-/
