It could be that gksu does not provide any information what UID the
calling user has. If you run kdesu env, do you see anything that
indicates your username or your userid in the environment?

Note that kdesu env has no more effect than clicking the problematic buttons.
kdesu xterm -e bash -c 'env; sleep 1000'
allows to see the result (hopefully, I ended up with a command more complicated
than it needs to be).
