Many of the currently build failures are in packages Im a maintainer of (not a surprise: Ive been adding tests at build time in most of them), and I intend to address this issue in priority with them (following the list order, starting with the first one, i.e., php-crypt-blowfish). I also intend to address another issue with phploc (that is broken with the upcoming php-symfony-finder version). Please, everybody, feel welcome to investigate, patch and upload (or ask for a sponsor on the list) any broken package to allow the latest PHPUnit to make it into Jessie. (But dont waste your time with, e.g., php-sabre-http, that is not meant to be part of Jessie.) Fixed versions of phpdox and php-parser have just been uploaded, you should be able to fetch them directly from incoming (they should also reach Sid after the next dinstall, i.e. in about six hours). That made me thinks: in order to avoid bootstrap issues, we may need to deactivate PHPUnit tests at build time for phpunit build-dependencies. On the other hand, a new fancy syntax may show up starting with Jessie+1 to correctly declare the build-dependencies only needed to run tests, so if there is no actual problem (i.e., if they are only theoretical), I guess we can live with them for the time being. Some new dependencies made it out of NEW (please note that packages waiting in NEW should not have stopped us from uploading to experimental anyway), and AFAICT, there is no documented blockers anymore. Sorry for being pushy, but we’re now about a month from the freeze, and such a new version (3.7 -> 4.2) may be pretty disruptive. There is a handful of dependencies against phpunit in the archive, but there are over 50 build-dependencies! We must have some time to discover any actual pitfall, and some time to fix the eventual regressions. One month for that is already pretty short, I wouldn’t be comfortable to wait any longer to upload a new version (the alternative would be to live with the 3.7 version for Jessie). If there is any way we can help now, please do not hesitate to provide pointers. If you have work in progress, do not hesitate to push it in a temporary branch so we may be able to shim in.
