Bug#751334: nvidia-kernel-dkms: after kernel upgrade from 3.2 to 3.14, root ops fail once X is started
After an upgrade to linux-image-3.14-1-686-pae version 3.14.12-1 this problem has gone away. It happened every time, without fail, with these versions of linux-image-3.14: 3.14.9-1 , 3.14.7-1, 3.14.4-1 The upgrade that fixed this was part of an apt-get upgrade which updated 500+ packages and it's possible the cause was some other package that was out of date. The upgrade to the new kernel did not rebuild: /lib/modules/3.14-1-686-pae/updates/dkms/nvidia-current.ko I would recommend closing this bug now. 751334: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=751334 thanks, --jack
Bug#751334: nvidia-kernel-dkms: after kernel upgrade from 3.2 to 3.14, root ops fail once X is started
I'm attaching a copy of /var/log/Xorg.0.log with nvidia and X running on the 3.2 kernel, which works fine. One of the odd things in the Xorg log file when this ran on the 3.14 kernel were lines like these (they are not present when running the 3.2 kernel): /var/log/Xorg.1.log:[ 48327.144] drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0 /var/log/Xorg.1.log:[ 48327.148] drmOpenByBusid: drmOpenMinor returns -1 /var/log/Xorg.1.log:[ 48327.148] drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card1 /var/log/Xorg.1.log:[ 48327.152] drmOpenByBusid: drmOpenMinor returns -1 /var/log/Xorg.1.log:[ 48327.152] drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card2 All the libdrm libraries in my system were up to date. thanks, -jack Xorg.0.log Description: Binary data
