Bug#758237: grace contains nonfree cephes library
Package: grace Version: 1:5.1.23-8 Severity: serious The grace package contains code from the cephes library, which is under the following nonfree license: Some software in this archive may be from the book Methods and Programs for Mathematical Functions (Prentice-Hall, 1989) or from the Cephes Mathematical Library, a commercial product. In either event, it is copyrighted by the author. What you see here may be used freely but it comes with no support or guarantee. The license isn't included in the source package (this doesn't seem to be the complete cephes library) but you can find it in the tarball on the the cephes author's website. [1] There was a discussion back in 2004 about the author being willing to relicense it under a BSD license [2], but nothing happened after that. It seems that there actually was further progress, resulting in an explicit GPL-2 license: http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/collab-maint/labplot.git/tree/debian/copyright However, this was not also filed as a grace bug at the time, so this is not documented in the grace packaging - which I agree is a bug that must be fixed. Looks like debian/copyright is overdue for an overhaul in general. -- Nicholas Breen nbr...@debian.org -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
