Bug#770530: accessibility: impossible to change the default search engine without mouse
Hi, Actually the widget doesn't announce itself as a combo box, but it is one. To open the search engines list (and settings), the user can press alt-down arrow key. So you can close the bug if you want, or rename it, so that the search bar widget to be identified as a combo box as well as an editing field, so that the screen reader enable the user to press alt-down arrow key to get the options. Firefox/Iceweasel 34 will actually have something like that. And 31.3 should fix accessibility, which I think should make a11y tools see more of the UI. Mike Oh nice. I'll be glad to test. What about the release in Jessie? Will include such improvements? Is that possible? Thanks very much. Bug#770530: accessibility: impossible to change the default search engine without mouse
Package: iceweasel Version: 31.2.0esr-3 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, *** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate *** * What led up to the situation? I want to add search.kujiu.org in my ;ist of search engine, in particular to set it by default when I enter keywords on the search and address bars. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? If I use mouse (click, list, adding, etc), it works. * What was the outcome of this action? But I am unable to do the same with the keyboard. And some people cannot use the mouse. Blind people for example use only a flat review, unable to identify the arrow to change these settings. * What outcome did you expect instead? The search engine stuff should be customisab;e via about:config (with better documentation for this), or through preferences meou. We also could do an item to set up this in the contextual menu which can be opened while t:e focus is in the search bar. Finally, ?e could create a keyboard binding to set this. It's a big improvement. *** End of the template - remove these template lines *** Regards, -- Package-specific info: -- Addons package information -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers testing-updates APT policy: (500, 'testing-updates'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages iceweasel depends on: ii debianutils 4.4+b1 ii fontconfig2.11.0-6.1 ii libasound21.0.28-1 ii libatk1.0-0 2.14.0-1 ii libc6 2.19-13 ii libcairo2 1.14.0-2.1 ii libdbus-1-3 1.8.10-1 ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.102-1 ii libevent-2.0-52.0.21-stable-1.1 ii libffi6 3.1-2 ii libfontconfig12.11.0-6.1 ii libfreetype6 2.5.2-2 ii libgcc1 1:4.9.1-19 ii libgdk-pixbuf2.0-02.31.1-2+b1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.42.0-2 ii libgtk2.0-0 2.24.25-1 ii libhunspell-1.3-0 1.3.3-3 ii libnspr4 2:4.10.7-1 ii libnss3 2:3.17.2-1 ii libpango-1.0-01.36.8-2 ii libsqlite3-0 3.8.7.1-1 ii libstartup-notification0 0.12-4 ii libstdc++64.9.1-19 ii libvpx1 1.3.0-3 ii libx11-6 2:1.6.2-3 ii libxext6 2:1.3.3-1 ii libxrender1 1:0.9.8-1+b1 ii libxt61:1.1.4-1+b1 ii procps2:3.3.9-8 ii zlib1g1:1.2.8.dfsg-2 iceweasel recommends no packages.
