FYI, the latest upload of the Linux kernel package still FTBFS on sh4 and it has been so for over two years now [1]. Changing the default compiler to gcc-4.8 which has the m4-nofpu configuration enabled will fix at least the current reason for the kernel package to FTBFS as this configuration is not available on gcc-4.7. Well, the kernel package doesn't currently build on sh4 because gcc-4.7 was built with the m4-nofpu configuration missing [1]. So, I assume it's better to have an untested kernel than no kernel at all, isn't it? I will thoroughly test the kernel package once the builds were actually able to build it :). Bug#772602: [sh4]: Please use default compiler instead of gcc-4.7
Package: linux Version: 3.16.7-2 Severity: normal Hello! On sh4, the kernel package is still built with gcc-4.7 by default since both gcc-4.8 and gcc-4.9 were not built on sh4 until recently. This has now been resolved and both gcc-4.8 and gcc-4.9 are now readily available on sh4 to build the kernel. I assume it should just be necessary to drop the "compiler" statement in /debian/ config/sh4/defines. It would be nice to have this fixed for the next upload. Thanks!
