Bug#805196: Also doesn't work with "testing"

Installed version 1.0.25-2 from "testing", rebooted, same behavior. 
Process is in an unkillable hang, and the last line of "lsof -c 
scanimage" is

scanimage 3477 davidl   71r      CHR   99,0      0t0    8854 /dev/parport0

FWIW, this is on an IBM ThinkCentre, has a parallel port, nothing is 
plugged into it.
