Bug#815187: Bug debian-Installer jessie: Installation grub fails without error message

2016-02-20 Thread François POLASTRON
Hello Cyril,

Thank you for your mail.
I had tested the bug bcause of a conversation with someone on the french forum
https://www.debian-fr.org/support-debian.html[1]

You can find the conversation here:
https://www.debian-fr.org/pas-de-boot-possible-apres-installation-debian-x64-t54628.html[2]

and a "polemique" here:
https://www.debian-fr.org/bug-installateur-debian-confirme-par-plusieurs-utilisateurs-t54650.html[3]

I also had found other traces of this bug on the web.

For your demand of /var/log/installer/syslog
You must know this thing: I had tested the bug on a "Compaq Presario CQ60" and
I had
changed the disk before the operation. But now I re-install my usual disk in my
computer to
work
But I found also on the Web this conversation which confirm the bug (you must
see in the
comment date 23/10:
http://www.generation-nt.com/reponses/partition-gpt-grub-raid-soft-entraide-4262073.html?page=2#comments[4]

Note that fact: the installer after processing had made a
"debconf-show grub-pc"which show that grub is not installed

This seems very strange to me. Any chance you have access to this computer
anyway, and can share the installer logs containing the failed attempt?
(/var/log/installer/syslog notably.)

(contourner = to work around)

Don't worry, we've seen worse messages. ;)

package: Debian-Installer
Version: 20150422+deb8u3

Dear Maintener,

I found a big bug in debian-Installer on a "BIOS Legacy" computer
When trying to force grub installation in other device than primary disk, in
graphical mode the menu lets the user choose the device:
/dev/sda
/dev/sdb
...
But when we choose one of a device debian-Installer don't install GRUB WITHOUT
ERROR MESSAGE.

In fact we must enter the device with the keyboard taping "/dev/sda"... to
contourn the bug.

Excuse-me for my english language. I'm a french guy
