Looks like there is a bug with show text in icons option in Nemo. I have tried
it in Caja (Mate) in Debian Stable and it shows text in icons with all default
themes except Gnome and Adwaita.

In Cinnamon testing it doesnt show text at all.

Indeed, this seems to be caused by a change in gtk, the upstream bug about
this is:

https://github.com/linuxmint/nemo/issues/954

There is later removal of the option in nemo, that hasn't been released yet:
https://github.com/linuxmint/nemo/pull/1256

Dear Maintainer,

The same problem with Mate and Menta icon themes.

The file managers used by gnome and cinnamon are different, and they have
different logics about when to show which icon. In particular the icon used
by nautilus is text-x-generic while the one used by nemo is text-x-preview,
this is probably related to the preview settings in the nemo configuration.

I don't think this is a bug.

The Adwaita icon theme not used right. As an example look at the icon
/etc/adduser.conf in Cinnamon and Gnome. In the first case it is a
blank sheet,
in the second it is a texted sheet.

The icon that you see depends on the icon theme you are using, not only
the
desktop environment.  Are you testing this both on Cinnamon and GNOME
using
adwaita as the icon them?

Could you maybe send a couple of screenshots, one from GNOME and one from
Cinnamon, where you show both the icon that you see and the icon theme
that is
set in each?  This would help understand the problem better.

ThanksMarga

Hello,

Yes, the adwaita icon theme is used in both DE.

The screenshots are attached.

There is also no icon at all in Menu -> Recent Files submenu.

Best wishes,
John
