Thank you for doing this. It saved my having to download a few GB. I can now get a couple of TV programmes. :) Not a cups bug; reassigning so the live folks can sort it out. Cheers, Brian.

(Only the cinnamon > image has them). No reply on the -live list, so some help from you, brian, would be appreciated. Open the ISO (I would use midnight commander) and look at /live/filesystem.packages. I assume this is a list of packages a debian-live-9.0.0-amd64-gnome would have. What cups* and printer-driver-* packages are listed? Regards, Brian.

Thank you for you report, brian. This does not look like a bug in cups. However, I do not know where to reassign the report or even whether there is an issue with the live image. Hence the CC to debian-live. debian-live-9.0.0-i386-gnome.packages at https://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/current-live/i386/iso-hybrid/ does not list cups or any printer-driver packages. (Only the cinnamon image has them). Cheers, Brian.
Bug#865065: cups: Print Service Not Available -- debian-live-9.0.0-amd64-gnome
Package: cups Version: 1.7.5-11+deb8u1 Severity: minor Dear Maintainer, Step 1: Launch the live cd using debian-live-9.0.0-amd64-gnome. Gnome-Shell should be launched. Step 2: Click the down arrow on the right > settings > printers. Step 3: You will see that CUPS has failed to launch and gives a "Print Service Not Available". This is not critical but if someone was trying to play with a printer using debian live they can't. -- System Information: Debian Release: 8.8 APT prefers oldstable-updates APT policy: (500, 'oldstable-updates'), (500, 'oldstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 4.9.0-0.bpo.3-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages cups depends on: ii cups-client1.7.5-11+deb8u1 ii cups-common1.7.5-11+deb8u1 ii cups-core-drivers 1.7.5-11+deb8u1 ii cups-daemon1.7.5-11+deb8u1 ii cups-filters 1.0.61-5+deb8u3 ii cups-ppdc 1.7.5-11+deb8u1 ii cups-server-common 1.7.5-11+deb8u1 ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.56 ii ghostscript9.06~dfsg-2+deb8u5 ii libavahi-client3 0.6.31-5 ii libavahi-common3 0.6.31-5 ii libc-bin 2.19-18+deb8u9 ii libc6 2.19-18+deb8u9 ii libcups2 1.7.5-11+deb8u1 ii libcupscgi11.7.5-11+deb8u1 ii libcupsimage2 1.7.5-11+deb8u1 ii libcupsmime1 1.7.5-11+deb8u1 ii libcupsppdc1 1.7.5-11+deb8u1 ii libgcc11:4.9.2-10 ii libstdc++6 4.9.2-10 ii libusb-1.0-0 2:1.0.19-1 ii lsb-base 4.1+Debian13+nmu1 ii poppler-utils 0.26.5-2+deb8u1 ii procps 2:3.3.9-9 Versions of packages cups recommends: ii avahi-daemon 0.6.31-5 ii colord 1.2.1-1+b2 ii cups-filters [ghostscript-cups] 1.0.61-5+deb8u3 ii printer-driver-gutenprint5.2.10-3 Versions of packages cups suggests: ii cups-bsd 1.7.5-11+deb8u1 pn cups-pdf ii foomatic-db-compressed-ppds [foomatic-db] 20150411-1 ii hplip 3.14.6-1+deb8u1 ii printer-driver-hpcups 3.14.6-1+deb8u1 pn smbclient ii udev 215-17+deb8u7 -- debconf information excluded
