Bug#868042: poedit: Texts become right-aligned after upgrade onto poedit2

BTW with poedit is usually requested to test new wx versions, but I prefer to avoid uploading something that might break ABI in the future. Just lets hope 3.2 will not take too long to be released (or I'll have to ask some boinc-related gtk transition to have the new webview package, sigh) here I'm talking about poedit, but I still have this boinc issue in mind) >Meanwhile I think uploading 3.0.3.1 makes sense - there have been a lot of >fixes since 3.0.2, and it allows dropping 3 patches we're carrying. Also there >are a few debian-specific bugs that we can deal with. wonderful, I'm using 3.0.3 right now, and I appreciate the stability and fixes there. cheers! G.

Sorry, I'm failing to understand quite what you're asking. But anyway we can't transition to 3.1, as it's not ABI stable - we need to wait for upstream to release 3.2 to do that actual transition. We can try to get wider testing with 3.1, and perhaps upload a version to experimental, but even for that, waiting for 3.1.1 is probably sensible as 3.1.0 is quite old now, and packaging a snapshot makes forwarding bugs upstream more complex. Meanwhile I think uploading 3.0.3.1 makes sense - there have been a lot of fixes since 3.0.2, and it allows dropping 3 patches we're carrying. Also there are a few debian-specific bugs that we can deal with. Cheers, Olly

Hello Olly, >I'm already working on an update to 3.0.3.1. wonderful, thanks! >A transition to gtk3 will need a lot of preparation, so it doesn't make >sense to block uploading a new upstream for that. as you wish, I don't think this bug is serious enough BTW, people can live with it :) >That's not a "hack", and we can only drop it if we're making an >incompatible ABI change, which it isn't yet clear if a switch to >gtk3 would entail. sure, indeed, but I was talking more about the webview switch for boinc :) anyway, with all the bugfixes in 3.0.3 less defer the (eventual) transition for 3.1, right? thanks G.

A transition to gtk3 will need a lot of preparation, so it doesn't make sense to block uploading a new upstream for that. > (and drop the 0v5 rename hack :) ) That's not a "hack", and we can only drop it if we're making an incompatible ABI change, which it isn't yet clear if a switch to gtk3 would entail. Cheers, Olly

I tried a build of the new wx and the bug disappeared, so I'm reassigning this accordingly. cherry-picks seems mostly impossible, because this bug has been fixed in a long list of upstream bugfixes. Olly, do you have any advice against updating wx? I know you would like to transition to gtk3, maybe we can do them together? Package: poedit Version: 2.0.2-2 Severity: normal Tags: l10n I'm not sure what happened to my poedit on Debian Testing (Buster). When I start it up, all texts in the list would align to the right side, not the left side. This never happened when using poedit 1.8.x. An external screenshot: https://ooo.0o0.ooo/2017/07/11/5964d97a73037.png I tried to start poedit with "LC_ALL=C.UTF-8 poedit" but the problem still exists. -- System Information: Debian Release: buster/sid APT prefers unstable-debug APT policy: (500, 'unstable-debug'), (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 4.11.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=zh_CN.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=zh_CN.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=zh_CN (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages poedit depends on: ii gettext 0.19.8.1-2+b1 ii libboost-iostreams1.62.0 1.62.0+dfsg-4+b1 ii libboost-system1.62.0 1.62.0+dfsg-4+b1 ii libboost-thread1.62.0 1.62.0+dfsg-4+b1 ii libc6 2.24-12 ii libcld2-0 0.0.0-git20150806-5 ii libcpprest2.9 2.9.1-1 ii libgcc1 1:7.1.0-9 ii libglib2.0-0 2.52.3-1 ii libgtk2.0-0 2.24.31-2 ii libgtkspell0 2.0.16-1.1 ii libicu57 57.1-6 ii liblucene++0v53.0.7-8+b2 ii libsecret-1-0 0.18.5-3.1 ii libssl1.1 1.1.0f-3 ii libstdc++67.1.0-9 ii libwxbase3.0-0v5 3.0.2+dfsg-4 ii libwxgtk3.0-0v5 3.0.2+dfsg-4 ii poedit-common 2.0.2-2 poedit recommends no packages. poedit suggests no packages. -- no debconf information
