Bug#878379: xscreensaver-screensaver-webcollage: Please provide a means to set safe seach levels for those image search mehods that support it.

Package: xscreensaver-screensaver-webcollage
Version: 5.36-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: upstream

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

I installed the package, selected and configured the software.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

I read the documentation, skimmed the source, and was surprised that no such
options
existed even to be passed as command-line parameters.

   * What was the outcome of this action?

A "Wishlist" category bugreport.

Absolutely not. That is completely antithetical to the purpose of the
webcollage screen saver.

Fair enough, I expect Debian's maintainer will mark this won't fix in due
course, out of respect for your

position. I fear there's already sufficient tension between yourself and
Debian in general. It was only a suggestion

to maybe make the default output fall in line with the default of the major
search providers, who have this enabled

by default with turning it off optional.

Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion. It's legitimate wish, but nothing I will
look into unless someone sends a patch. I also share upstream opinion
on this to a large degree, and people can refrain from installing
webcollage if they are afraid of what internet can come up with.
Personally I am skeptical to the judgment of $SEARCHENGINE to what is
considered offending, politically incorrect or just unpleasant and
easiest censored away, and I always turn off those filters as much as
I can.

Regards,
Tormod
