Bug#882244: zstd: add zstd package to jessie-backports

2017-11-21 Thread David Magda
"Current systems" in the sense of 'systems that are currently being
used'. :)

Awesome.

It would be really handy to have a backports package available for
Debian 8 so that zstd could be used for current systems without having
to develope an in-house package.

Describing systems running Debian 8 as "current systems" is not really
what I would consider a correct description. However, I uploaded to
Backports-new. You need to wait until this is accepted.

Thanks for your time.

You are welcome

Package: zstd
Severity: wishlist

We have quite a few jessie systems, and it will be supported via LTS
until 2020, [1] so it may be a little while before they're all upgraded.

I was able to install the stable/stretch version of libzstd1 [2], but
trying to install the corresponding binary command package [3] gives
the following:

dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of zstd:
 zstd depends on libstdc++6 (>= 6); however:
Version of libstdc++6:amd64 on system is 4.9.2-10.

Thanks for your time.
