Package: qemu Version: 1:2.8+dfsg-6+deb9u3 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer,
I have a Xubuntu VM running on QEMU (with the AQEMU GUI), and this problem has occured multiple times while doing a dist-upgrade on the guest. The guest is configured to only have 1GB of memory available (out of the 8GB available to the host), but during a dist-upgrade, the QEMU process is using far more than that. On one occasion, I have monitored the process and seen the memory used increase from 1GB to 6GB+ in a matter of seconds before manually terminating it. I have not noticed this during normal upgrades. -- System Information: Debian Release: 9.3 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 4.9.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=en_US:en (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages qemu depends on: ii qemu-system 1:2.8+dfsg-6+deb9u3 ii qemu-user 1:2.8+dfsg-6+deb9u3 ii qemu-utils 1:2.8+dfsg-6+deb9u3 qemu recommends no packages.
