Bug#901497: Hard system hangs after upgrade from 18.0.5-1 to 18.1.1-1

2018-06-14 Thread Jacek Politowski
Package: libgl1-mesa-dri
Version: 18.1.1-1
Followup-For: Bug #901497

Dear Maintainer,

I've also encountered hard video/mouse hangs after upgrade of mesa to 18.1.1-1.

It seems 100% reproducible with Firefox (Debian package 60.0.2-1), for example
on https://racetime.io/.

Disabling hardware acceleration in Firefox doesn't change anything.

Chromium seems unaffected (webpages that hang my video/mouse/keyboard in
Firefox work flawlessly in Chromium).

To test this situation I've downgraded following packages:
libegl-mesa0:amd64 18.1.1-1 -> 18.0.5-1
libegl1-mesa:amd64 18.1.1-1 -> 18.0.5-1
libgbm1:amd64 18.1.1-1 -> 18.0.5-1
libgl1-mesa-dri:amd64 18.1.1-1 -> 18.0.5-1
libgl1-mesa-glx:amd64 18.1.1-1 -> 18.0.5-1
libglapi-mesa:amd64 18.1.1-1 -> 18.0.5-1
libgles2-mesa:amd64 18.1.1-1 -> 18.0.5-1
libglx-mesa0:amd64 18.1.1-1 -> 18.0.5-1
libosmesa6:amd64 18.1.1-1 -> 18.0.5-1
librdmacm1:amd64 18.1-1 -> 18.0-1
libibverbs1:amd64 18.1-1 -> 18.0-1
libwayland-egl1-mesa:amd64 18.1.1-1 -> 18.0.5-1
mesa-va-drivers:amd64 18.1.1-1 -> 18.0.5-1
mesa-vdpau-drivers:amd64 18.1.1-1 -> 18.0.5-1

Downgrade seems to have solved the issue.

To test it further, I've upgraded some of them back:
[UPGRADE] libegl-mesa0:amd64 18.0.5-1 -> 18.1.1-1
[UPGRADE] libegl1-mesa:amd64 18.0.5-1 -> 18.1.1-1
[UPGRADE] libgbm1:amd64 18.0.5-1 -> 18.1.1-1
[UPGRADE] libgl1-mesa-dri:amd64 18.0.5-1 -> 18.1.1-1
[UPGRADE] libgl1-mesa-glx:amd64 18.0.5-1 -> 18.1.1-1
[UPGRADE] libgles2-mesa:amd64 18.0.5-1 -> 18.1.1-1
[UPGRADE] libibverbs1:amd64 18.0-1 -> 18.1-1
[UPGRADE] librdmacm1:amd64 18.0-1 -> 18.1-1
[UPGRADE] libwayland-egl1-mesa:amd64 18.0.5-1 -> 18.1.1-1
[UPGRADE] mesa-va-drivers:amd64 18.0.5-1 -> 18.1.1-1
[UPGRADE] mesa-vdpau-drivers:amd64 18.0.5-1 -> 18.1.1-1

keeping only few of them downgraded (lucky guess):
[HOLD] libglapi-mesa:amd64 18.0.5-1
[HOLD] libglx-mesa0:amd64 18.0.5-1
[HOLD] libosmesa6:amd64 18.0.5-1

This configuration seems stable for me (of course also after reboot). I can now
visit any web page with Firefox with no need to login remotely via SSH (or use
SysRq) to reboot hanged system.

Bug#901497: Hard system hangs after upgrade from 18.0.5-1 to 18.1.1-1

2018-06-14 Thread Mourad De Clerck
I have the same issue on my MacbookPro14,1 laptop, using an Intel Core
i7-7660U with Iris Plus 640.

Same symptoms, hang using Firefox (on Wayland) for moderately
complicated websites.

Downgrading solves it.

Hi all,

last information for now:

When starting the session with "GNOME on Xorg" the effect disappears.

Maybe the bug should be assigned to xwayland?

Hi all,

here some more informations. maybe it helps:

1) Purging flashplayer doesnt solve the problem

2) You still can login by network when graphic hangs

3) Xwayland process uses 100% CPU

4) Connecting to this process with strace shows only a lot of:

writev(16, [], 0)   = 0

regulary interrupted by:

--- SIGALRM {si_signo=SIGALRM, si_code=SI_KERNEL} ---
rt_sigreturn({mask=[]}) = 0

5) A restart/stop of gdm (systemctl restart/stop gdm) doesnt help,
you have to do a hard kill (kill -9) of the Xwayland process.

Which specific versions of Firefox are you using?

Are you using FlashPlayer with Firefox at all, and if so, which version?

Exactly the same problem here with this URL:

https://www.golem.de/news/spionagevorwurf-eu-parlament-will-kaspersky-l
oswerden-1806-134949.html

I can reproduce the effect with Firefox and Firefox ESR. Chromium is
not affected by this.

I not downgraded until now so if you need more information please
contact me.

that's odd, I've been running 18.1.0 on my KBL laptop (on Ubuntu though)
without any issues..

maybe file it upstream and see what happens

Bug#901497: Hard system hangs after upgrade from 18.0.5-1 to 18.1.1-1

2018-06-14 Thread Josh Triplett
Package: libgl1-mesa-dri
Version: 18.1.1-1
Severity: important

Severity "important" because it hard-hangs the system, but not RC
because presumably it doesn't happen on all configurations.

After upgrading all the mesa packages from 18.0.5-1 to 18.1.1-1, I can
consistently and quickly hard-hang the system by visiting almost any
non-trivial webpage in Firefox. The symptom is that the loading
indicator and all other display updates will freeze, the system will
stop responding to keystrokes (including alt-tab or ctrl-w), and the
mouse cursor will temporarily keep functioning but stop working if I
move it to the upper left corner to trigger the (gnome-shell) overview.

I reproduced this several times in a row (with reboots in between). I
then downgraded the mesa packages back to 18.0.5-1, and the problem
stopped occurring.

(Note that the information below comes from the system after downgrading
to 18.0.5.)
