Bug#904839: bsdmainutils: cal still highlights though -h option is gone

2020-08-16 Thread Dylan Thurston
Package: ncal
Followup-For: Bug #904839

This is really a follow-up bug, but the '-h' option is still
documented in the man page (as an option for both cal and ncal).

Bug#904839: bsdmainutils: cal still highlights though -h option is gone

2018-07-28 Thread Aaron Hall
Package: bsdmainutils
Version: 9.0.12+nmu1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

The -h option to cal(1) was removed with the rationale (given in
response to bug #867995:

> Yes, but this is by design as the docs say cal is supposed to be
> drop-in compatible to the original cal command.

That's well and good, but then cal should not highlight at all, because
a plain display without other control characters is the traditional
behavior of Unix cal. Because cal still adds highlighting, that
interferes with post-processing its output (which is the why the manpage
says it should be "bit for bit compatible").

Thanks,
Aaron
