Package: moc Version: 1:2.6.0~svn-r2984-1 Followup-For: Bug #913277 In fact, what are we doing exactly when linking '/usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf.d/pulse.conf' file and '/etc/alsa/conf.d' directory?

Package: moc Version: 1:2.6.0~svn-r2984-1 Followup-For: Bug #913277 Ok, good! Linking the two files ("ln -s /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf.d/pulse.conf /etc/alsa/conf.d") 'mocp' works normally now, there are no errors ("mocp -D" and no errors in 'mocp_client_log' / 'mocp_server_log'). So, what happens exactly? What is the exact problem here? Which package is "buggy"? Cheers, Awtul

I have no troubles with 'qmmp' if pulseaudio module is activated in qmmp settings instead of the alsa one. I also suspect alsa stuff but not sure what exactly. Not on pure sid, but siduction, I have the exact same issue, I end up with "FATAL_ERROR: No valid sound driver! FATAL_ERROR: Server exited!" My guess is that this is not an issue with mocp but with alsa. See my findings in the siduction forums https://forum.siduction.org/index.php?topic=7484.0

Package: moc Version: 1:2.6.0~svn-r2984-1 Followup-For: Bug #913277 Cache file deleted (.moc/cache) but I still get same error as pasted in first message. Moc config file just have the following line: Theme = /usr/share/moc/themes/black_theme I don't have a custom config; I use defaults. --- I have a sid vm almost fresh. I just installed 'mocp' and it starts just fine. But I started 'chromium' and played a youtube video and 'mocp' doesn't start; I get same error. So, 'mocp' crashes with the error message I pasted in the first message if I try to run it while any other application is playing audio/video. Same problem so in the host and in the vm, both sid and both up to date.

Package: moc Version: 1:2.6.0~svn-r2984-1 Followup-For: Bug #913277 I just realized that 'mocp' crashes with the message pasted at the beginning of this report when there is another application playing sound. Example: I run a youtube video on firefox. I start 'mocp' and it crashes. If I close the youtube video on firefox, 'mocp' starts fine. I wonder why this issue started to happen just recently, and why now 'mocp' displays 'PCM' next to the volume level in the volume bar (example: 50 PCM). I think it doesn't do that days ago. According to dpkg.log, 'alsa-utils', 'libasound2', 'libasound2-data' and 'libasound2-plugins' have been upgraded a few days ago. Not sure if there is a correlation between those upgrades and 'moc'...

Bug#913277: "FATAL_ERROR: No valid sound driver! FATAL_ERROR: Server exited!"
Package: moc Version: 1:2.6.0~svn-r2984-1 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, Until yesterday 'moc' worked just fine. But now when I start it I get: "mocp -D Loading plugins from /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/moc/decoder_plugins... Loading plugin libaac_decoder... OK Loading plugin libffmpeg_decoder... OK Loading plugin libflac_decoder... OK Loading plugin libmodplug_decoder... OK Loading plugin libmp3_decoder... OK Loading plugin libmusepack_decoder... OK Loading plugin libopus_decoder... OK Loading plugin libsidplay2_decoder... OK Loading plugin libsndfile_decoder... OK Loading plugin libspeex_decoder... OK Loading plugin libvorbis_decoder... OK Loading plugin libwavpack_decoder... OK Running the server... Trying JACK... Trying ALSA... Trying OSS... FATAL_ERROR: No valid sound driver! FATAL_ERROR: Server exited!" Disabling 'pulseaudio' donot help. Since a few days, before having the referred issue, I noticed that 'mocp' shows "PCM" next to volume percentage in the volume bar; it doesn't do that previously, it always only showed volume percentage. -- System Information: Debian Release: buster/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 4.18.0-2-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=es_ES.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=es_ES.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=es_ES:es (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages moc depends on: ii libasound21.1.7-1 ii libc6 2.27-8 ii libcurl3-gnutls 7.62.0-1 ii libdb5.3 5.3.28+dfsg1-0.2 ii libfaad2 2.8.8-1 ii libflac8 1.3.2-3 ii libgcc1 1:8.2.0-9 ii libid3tag00.15.1b-13 ii libjack-jackd2-0 [libjack-0.125] 1.9.12~dfsg-2 ii libltdl7 2.4.6-6 ii libmad0 0.15.1b-9 ii libmagic1 1:5.34-2 ii libmodplug1 1:0.8.9.0-2 ii libmpcdec62:0.1~r495-1+b2 ii libncursesw6 6.1+20181013-1 ii libogg0 1.3.2-1+b1 ii libopusfile0 0.9+20170913-1 ii libpopt0 1.16-11 ii librcc0 0.2.12-0.1 ii libresid-builder0c2a 2.1.1-15 ii libsamplerate00.1.9-2 ii libsidplay2 2.1.1-15 ii libsidutils0 2.1.1-15 ii libsndfile1 1.0.28-4 ii libspeex1 1.2~rc1.2-1+b2 ii libstdc++68.2.0-9 ii libtagc0 1.11.1+dfsg.1-0.2+b1 ii libtinfo6 6.1+20181013-1 ii libvorbis0a 1.3.6-1 ii libvorbisfile31.3.6-1 ii libwavpack1 5.1.0-4 ii zlib1g1:1.2.11.dfsg-1 moc recommends no packages.
