Bug#923663: partitionmanager: does not start, permission denied

2019-03-29 Thread Roger

sudo is not configured here. Surely it should work with pkexec in Buster.

This message saying not to run it with sudo was posted at
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/463352/how-to-run-kde-partition-manager-with-no-root-password-set
but no suggested correct usage was forthcoming:

2019-03-29 Thread Nicholas D Steeves
Strange, I expected this to fail on my system, but it works perfectly
here (squeeze->wheezy->jessie->buster), with kdesudo config purged.
It also worked without kdesudo purged. I'm using the standard Xorg
session rather than Wayland, on an up-to-date buster system as of
Fri, 29 Mar 2019 21:27:51 -0400

The commands triggered by the menu entry are:

 7789 ?Sl 0:00 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libexec/kf5/kdesu -c
KDE_FULL_SESSION=true XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=/run/user/1000
DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS=unix:path=/run/user/1000/bus /usr/bin/partitionmanager
--dontsu
 7793 pts/35   Ss+0:00 /usr/bin/sudo -u root
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libexec/kf5/kdesu_stub -

If I were to guess, maybe the su support is broken but sudo support is
intact?

Cheers,
Nicholas

Bug#923663: partitionmanager: does not start, permission denied

2019-03-29 Thread Roger
I have tried to run partitionmanager on both testing and unstable
systems. The permissions issue can be fixed with a policy file in
/usr/share/polkit-1/actions/ and subsequently open it with

pkexec partitionmanager

But partitionmanager has other problems. After attempting to start with
pkexec it gives this message:

"pkexec partitionmanager qt.qpa.screen: QXcbConnection: Could not
connect to display Could not connect to any X display."

Defining a display makes no difference.

I've been advised not to run it with "su -c" but tried it as a test and
it shows different errors :

"No support tools were found for file systems currently present on hard
disks in this computer:

As long as the support tools for these file systems are not installed
you will not be able to modify them.

You should find packages with these support tools in your distribution's
package manager."

Both those packages are installed, of course.

Bug#923663: partitionmanager: does not start, permission denied

2019-03-03 Thread Aurélien Murith
Package: partitionmanager
Version: 3.3.1-5
Severity: important

Running partitionmanager from KDE menu does not work, I get a "permission
denied" after having given my password. However, it works when running as "su
-c partitionmanager" from console.
