It's OK I found the issue -- there was a version of libgoffice 0.10-40
in ./usr/local/lib that I've deleted and all is cool now.

I have the same versions as you but don't have the issue.

Could you run this command to find out where the symbol comes from?

$ LD_DEBUG=symbols gnumeric |& grep go_color_palette_query
 16327: symbol=go_color_palette_query;  lookup in file=gnumeric [0]
 16327: symbol=go_color_palette_query;  lookup in
file=/usr/lib/libspreadsheet-1.12.44.so [0]
 16327: symbol=go_color_palette_query;  lookup in
file=/usr/lib/libgoffice-0.10.so.10 [0]

Bug#927840: gnumeric won't start: library incompatibility

2019-04-23 Thread peterc
Package: gnumeric
Version: 1.12.44-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I do:
$ gnumeric
gnumeric: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libspreadsheet-1.12.44.so:
undefined symbol: go_color_palette_query

Looks like gnumeric was built against libraries other than the ones at
the tip of sid, and the dependencies in the package are incorrect.
