This is a warning only to notify the user that the system is
inconsistently installed and the OpenSSL library loaded at run-time was
newer than the OpenSSL headers on the build host.

This does not mention the fetchmail version, and it appears that
fetchmail wasn't rebuilt after an OpenSSL upgrade.

Please check if upgrading the entire system fixes the issue, and if not,
please provide further logging to show that and how fetchmail "loses mail".

This is clearly a different issue than the original bug report.
The problem here is that you're trying to connect to an insecure
server. See /usr/share/doc/libssl1.1/NEWS.Debian.gz for more
information.

Ok, could temp solve it bydowngrade fetchmail to stretch version.

vi /etc/apt/sources.list
#add
deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ stretch main non-free contrib
deb-src http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ stretch main non-free contrib

apt-get update
apt-get install fetchmail/stretch

Same here in Debian stable - just upgraded from stable stretch to the
new stable buster and broke production fetchmail system.
