This is a warning only to notify the user that the system is inconsistently installed and the OpenSSL library loaded at run-time was newer than the OpenSSL headers on the build host. This does not mention the fetchmail version, and it appears that fetchmail wasn't rebuilt after an OpenSSL upgrade. Please check if upgrading the entire system fixes the issue, and if not, please provide further logging to show that and how fetchmail "loses mail".

The problem here is that you're trying to connect to an insecure server. See /usr/share/doc/libssl1.1/NEWS.Debian.gz for more information. Kurt
