Oh, I didn't read that last sentence. All right then.

Note that the symbol versioning added a while back is intended to make
it easier to do an incremental upgrade, with no hard transition. E.g.,
it should work to link an executable both directly to libnettle.so.6 and
indirectly (e.g., via gnutls) to the abi-incompatible libnettle.so.7. Or
vice versa. Not very well tested, though.

thanks for the pointer!

the transition bug appears to be:

   https://bugs.debian.org/941150

The last message there is from pochu, saying "Other than that things are
looking good here, so please go ahead."

Magnus, are you willing to go ahead to move 3.5.1 into unstable?

Thanks,

Bug#933266: nettle 3.5.1

2019-10-23 Thread Daniel Kahn Gillmor
Hi Magnus--

I see that 3.5.1+really3.4.1 and 3.5.1+really3.5.1 are in
unstable and experimental, separately.

any chance that we can get 3.5.1+really3.5.1 into unstable soon? if
not, can you tell me what might be blocking it?

i'm working on updating rust-nettle-sys (bindings for nettle in Rust),
which explicitly lists 3.5.1 as its target.

If there's a reason to avoid 3.5.1 in debian unstable for now, can you
point me to an explanation?

Thanks for maintaining nettle in debian,
