Yeah, I can definitely understand that, and we're all a bit overwhelmed. But
having the severity raised before the update could have helped on this by
raising awareness. Maybe it would have been possible to backport the --export-
storage option to a point release or something.

Maybe it's pointless at that point, but as above: provide a way to do the
export from Stretch, or maybe ship an --export-storage stuff in the Buster
package.

It's definitely undesirable, but unfortunately no-one submitted a patch
in time for the buster release.

IMO it's better to have the ability to do this manual upgrade than not
to have radicale in buster/bullseye at all -- or do you have a third
option in mind?

Hi Jonas, I got that issue earlier, and to be honest I kind of side with
Fabrice here, and I find it bit sad Buster was released with that kind of
behavior.

NEWS.Debian says (you really need to have apt-listchanges installed to see
that before installing, but it won't save you anyway):

So the advice here is to actually install a *snapshot* package, downgrading
from the 2.x package you're about to install, in order to actually export the
package, before upgrading again and somehow (by, I assume, following the 1to2
page) importing it again.

I know you're a volunteer and you do a lot of work, so it's not really against
you Jonas. But I consider this kind of bug RC (and thus raising the severity).
We ought to have a migration path *in Debian*.

You have two options:

  a) Follow only upstream migration documentation
  b) Follow the Debian migration notes

Seems that above you followed a) but missed/skipped the detail of
explicitly installing version 1.1.6 using pip.

If you have issues with a) - e.g. that it is confusing - then please
file bugreports directly to the upstream issue tracker:
https://github.com/Kozea/Radicale/issues

> I also tried to run a newer version of radicale (1.1.6) in a virtual

Seems that above you followed a) but deviated by using some virtualizing
tool instead of pip, and for some reason it failed.

Running non-Debian code can fail in very different ways than purely
using Debian Again, so again please file such issues upstream:
https://github.com/Kozea/Radicale/issues

Sorry, which _Debian_ issues are left here which I missed?

If you tried b) and it failed, then please provide more details what
exactly you did and how it failed.

Kind regards,

 - Jonas

Bug#940093: radicale 1.1.1: --export-storage option missing

2019-09-12 Thread Fabrice Meyer
Package: radicale
Version: 1.1.1+20160115-4
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I was trying to migrate calendars from 1.1.1 version to 2.x while upgrading to
buster following the documentation migration path (https://radicale.org/1to2/).
While running radicale with --export-storage option, it lead to the following
error : "radicale: error: no such option: --export-storage"

Indeed, this option doesn't exist in __main__.py inside radicale package. I
also grep export-storage into the package dir, without any result.

I also tried to run a newer version of radicale (1.1.6) in a virtual
environment. This option seems to be absent too.

Maybe it should be reported directly to radicale developpment team too.

I hope someone could fix this.

Regards,
