I believe all bugs for the installer go to the debian-installer
package.

Interesting. I recollect discoveries were done explicitly by the
initiator. Thus, you mention the target that you want to negotiate to.

But that was years ago. I haven't been on top of the iSCSI stuff
lately.

I agree it could be a nice feature to have.

Bug#943348: open-iscsi: Ask for initiator name during install

2019-10-23 Thread Christopher David Howie
Package: open-iscsi
Version: 2.0.874-7.1
Severity: wishlist

(I am not sure if this is the correct package to report this to, or if
there is a separate package for the debian-installer component. Please
reassign as appropriate.)

In the Debian installer, while editing partitions, one has a chance to
connect to iSCSI targets. However, nowhere does the installer ask for
the iSCSI initiator name during this process. Some targets require a
specific initiator name to be used (to avoid initiators discovering
devices that aren't relevant to them) and currently, using those targets
during installation requires switching to a secondary VT and manually
editing files.

It would be helpful for the installer to ask if a specific initiator
name is required, and then configure both the installer environment and
the target system to have that name.
