Bug#951775: wpasupplicant: Wifi connection failure on upgrade to 2.9+git20200213

2020-03-17 Thread robert
Package: wpasupplicant
Followup-For: Bug #951775

Dear Maintainer,

I'm writing to say that despite the immediate effect just after installation,
the issue was temporary.

After rebooting both, the laptop and the router, all worked well although it
took me a few days rebooting them. So from my point of view, you may close the
bug.

Thank you for your work (really). Regards,

robert

Bug#951775: wpasupplicant: Wifi connection failure on upgrade to 2.9+git20200213

2020-03-01 Thread robert
Package: wpasupplicant
Version: 2:2.9.0-8
Followup-For: Bug #951775

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

I follow Debian testing. Upgrading the system.

/var/log/aptitude
[UPGRADE] wpasupplicant:amd64 2:2.9+git20200213+877d9a0-1 -> 2:2.9.0-8

Inmediate effect. Just after package installation the computer hasn't been able
to establish a WiFi connection with the router due to an authentication issue.

I have been using the WiFi connection without any trouble for the last few
months. Currently, I'm using an Ethernet cable.

I'm reporting it here because for me the bug isn't solved. At least for me.
Should I create a new bug report because of being a different package version?

I haven't tried the package in "experimental" as reportbug suggested me because
I have no idea how to do it. Neither I know how to reuse/reinstall the previous
version (if it's still in the system).

Thanks in advance for looking into it. Regards.

Would you please be so kind and report this to the upstream at
hos...@lists.infradead.org? They will ask you to provide debug logs
and more information, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have reuploaded 2.9 into unstable and a new Git snapshot into
experimental. Could you please test both and if the issue is still there
with the version from experimental, we can start investigating further.

Bug#951775: wpasupplicant: Wifi connection failure on upgrade to 2.9+git20200213

2020-02-21 Thread Steven Zalek
Package: wpasupplicant
Version: 2:2.9+git20200213+877d9a0-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

Debian testing - regular package update

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

Effect was immediate - can no longer connect to WPA/WPA2 home wifi
Home wifi SSID detected, but no ability to securely connect.
System repeatedly requests wifi password; proper password given in pop-up
dialog and alternately manually in the NetworkManager wifi Connection
Information file to no effect.

Wifi network password positively verified by inspection of router configuration

Packages for wpasupplicant and laptop wifi firmware reinstalled; still will not
connect upon providing proper password

Wifi connection fully deleted and reinstalled via NetworkManager; still will
not connect upon providing proper password

Wifi router shut down and restarted; still will not connect upon providing
proper password

Laptop computer shut down and restarted; still will not connect upon providing
proper password

Combinations of the above actions taken; still will not connect upon providing
proper password

I CAN connect to the wifi router by using the associated 'open' (guest)
account. This indicates that my laptop hardware and software, and the router
hardware are OK.

Something related to passwords for WPA/WPA2 security changed in the latest
2.9+git20200213 version that prevents my system from connecting to a secure
wifi connection.

Thanks for looking into this issue.
