Bug#954128: munin-node: timeout in init script too short

2020-03-17 Thread gregor herrmann
Package: munin-node
Version: 2.0.57-1
Severity: minor

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA512

/etc/init.d/munin-node has

START_ARGS="--background --notify-await --notify-timeout 15"

This 15 seconds timeout is fine on my laptop but is too short on my
old Raspberry Pis (running Raspbian but the package is just copied
from Debian).

Please consider making it longer (I put it at 60 on one Raspi and at
120 on a slow other one) or leaving it out (the default is 60
seconds).

Cheers,
gregor

I agree.
In fact I think it was a remainder of my tests with the timeout.
Sixty seconds sounds more reasonable. I will change it with the next release.

Thanks for your report!

Cheers,
Lars

It is the delay for munin-node *startup*, not during runtime execution of
plugins.
Therefore, simplicity would be to just use the default timeout.

yes, sure, so let me rephrase: why not 5min for the default timeout?

That's a question that you should send to the systemd team, as simplicity
advocates we use theirs ;-)

ah, then i misunderstood. then i'd go with the systemd default. sorry for the
noise.
