Hi,

I usually build my own kernels from git, and then call make
modules_install and make install.

Debian's dkms seems to hook into this, and that worked quite well for
most modules (nvidia is an exception, it **never** works and needs to be
built automatically), but since a short time I see the following:

$ make install
sh ./arch/x86/boot/install.sh 5.12.0 arch/x86/boot/bzImage \
        System.map "/boot"
run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal 5.12.0
/boot/vmlinuz-5.12.0
run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/postinst.d/dkms 5.12.0 /boot/vmlinuz-5.12.0
dkms: running auto installation service for kernel 5.12.0:ACPI disabled in this
kernel, not building module.
ACPI disabled in this kernel, not building module.

Kernel preparation unnecessary for this kernel. Skipping...

Building module:
cleaning build area.....
make -j8 KERNELRELEASE=5.12.0 -C /lib/modules/5.12.0/build
M=/var/lib/dkms/acpi-call/1.1.0/build.....................................................

and it rebuilds the **whole** kernel ... again and again.
I have built the kernel before completely, the very same minute.

This is definitely new and a very disturbing and painful behaviour, that
actually doesn't result in anything useful.

Best

Norbert
