I've tested vdirsyncer on another device with Debian Bullseye and I
get the same error as on my main machine.

So it seems like this isn't only a personal issue.

Bug#994119: vdirsyncer: Random cannot import name 'metasync' with python3.9

2021-09-12 Thread Benedikt Tuchen
Package: vdirsyncer
Version: 0.16.8-2
Severity: grave

Dear Maintainer,

I've made an update to Debian 11 and after the update I tried to use
"vdirsyncer metasync" with my old configuration. While trying I got
the following error message:

error: Unknown error occurred: cannot import name 'metasync' from
partially initialized module 'vdirsyncer.metasync' (most likely due
to a circular import)
(/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/vdirsyncer/metasync.py)

Every time I execute the command the result which tasks fail is
different.

While searching I found a GitHub issue that has the same problem as
topic.

 -> https://github.com/pimutils/vdirsyncer/issues/862

Unfortunately, this error means that I cannot use the program.

I hope this bug is easy to fix.

Regards,
Benedikt
