And with a local X session on this machine, I can reproduce the issue
with the mouse, but not with Ctrl-V.

I've started firefox (Debian's package) remotely on another machine
via SSH, and in this case, the issue also occurs with Ctrl-V.

2021-10-20 Thread Vincent Lefevre
I've noticed something interesting: when I click over the search bar,
the focus is removed as soon as the button is pressed. For instance,
if I left-click, the focus is removed when I press the mouse button
and is put back when I release the mouse button. With a middle click,
the focus is removed as soon as the button is pressed, and the paste
occurs only when the button is released. This means that whether I
use the middle click or the menu, when the paste is done, the search
bar no longer has the focus. However, with Ctrl-V, the focus isn't
removed before the past occurs. So, the issue could be related to
the focus (there might be a race condition somewhere).

I can't reproduce either.

Bug#996851: firefox: The New Tab search bar loses the first word of text pasted with the mouse

2021-10-19 Thread Vincent Lefevre
Package: firefox
Version: 93.0-1
Severity: normal

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open a new tab.

2. Paste some text (e.g. "ab cd ef gh") in the search bar (saying
"Search the web") with the middle button or via the contextual
menu (right click over the search bar, then click on the "Paste"
   item).

A Google button appears in the address bar, followed by the text,
but without the first word, e.g. I get "cd ef gh" without "ab".

There is no such issue when pasting directly in the address bar or
when pasting with Ctrl-V.

This bug seems specific to Debian: I cannot reproduce this issue
with upstream's Firefox 93.

FYI, the bug I had reported upstream:

  https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1733731

(but no-one can reproduce it on non-Debian machines).

This bug was already present in firefox 92.0-1.
