Bug#391529: #391529 Etch installer freezed by tzdata

2006-11-01 Thread Frans Pop
Ok, fine that you found it. However, in the meantime, I managed to
setup a basic infrastructure to let me test the latest netinst image
 (http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/daily-builds/daily/20061008/i386/iso
-cd/debian-testing-i386-netinst.iso with md5sum
 f256549427efa2782f0253fc29553caf).

The problem won't show up with a daily image. You need a Beta 3 netinst or
full CD image to reproduce this.

Reason is that daily and other images will already install the latest
version of tzdata during debootstrap (base-installer) and so there won't
be an upgrade during tasksel (pkgsel).

Also, current d-i images have a fix for this issue in that they
configure tzdata before pkgsel is run, thereby avoiding the question.
In beta 3 this happened only at the very end of the installation.

Cheers,
FJP

Bug#391529: Etch installer freezed by tzdata

2006-11-01 Thread Steve Langasek
severity 391529 important
thanks

According to the d-i release manager, the installer has been modified to not
hang even if tzdata tries to prompt directly, so this bug is no longer
release-critical.

Bug#369917: xserver-xorg-input-mouse: Gets number of buttons wrong, even if Option Buttons specified

2006-11-01 Thread Drew Parsons

I find that the server is getting the number of buttons wrong (too
 high).

(**) Configured Mouse: ZAxisMapping: buttons 9 and 10
 (**) Configured Mouse: Buttons: 14

For reference this button count appears to be coming from mouse.c l.706,

/* get maximum of mapped buttons */
for (i = pMse-buttons-1; i = 0; i--) {
int f = ffs (pMse-buttonMap[i]);
if (f  pMse-buttons)
pMse-buttons = f;
}

That is, the original value is being reset to the value of
ffs(pMse-buttonMap[i]), where this is larger. The larger number
appears to be (actual number)+4. At a guess, the extra 4 buttons
correspond to the X- and Y-axes, with the normal mouse wheel occupying
the Z-axis.

ffs is defined or referred to in /usr/include/xorg/compiler.h
and ../xf86_libc.h (xserver-xorg-dev). A low level definition is found
in /usr/include/asm-generic/bitops/ffs.h, find first bit set

I suspect this is not actually a bug.

That test should add a test for root and skip it. If that is the only
reason not to build as root then that should be no excuse (post

Your unspoken premise is that there is a _reason_ to support building
packages as root. Why? I think it is better just to tell people not
to do that.

Bug#312974: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the mserv package

2006-11-01 Thread Christian Perrier

Dear maintainer of mserv and Debian translators,

On 26 oct 2006 I sent a notice to the maintainer of the mserv Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS (bug #312974).

I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization
bug as well as all other pending translations.

The package maintainer did not respond in a week so I will proceed with the
NMU.

The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to: cs de fr sv vi

Among these, the following translations are incomplete: de

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get a
copy of this announcement BCCd to you. Please review the translation.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations for
this package. Once completed, please send them directly to me so I can
incorporate them into the package being built.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is 09 nov 2006. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

You can download the pot, and any po, files from:

  http://people.debian.org/~lwall/i18n/pots/mserv

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

26 oct 2006 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
 02 nov 2006 : post a NMU announcement to debian-i18n with you

09 nov 2006 : deadline for receiving translation updates
10 nov 2006 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/0-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
10 nov 2006 : NMU uploaded to incoming

Bug#396672: libnss-ldap: Fails on unreadable KerberosV cache for GSSAPI auth

2006-11-01 Thread Andrew Deason
Package: libnss-ldap
Version: 251-5.2
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Suppose I want to use krb5_ccname and SASL, so I can have a host
authenticate with its host principal from a keytab. However, I don't want
normal users to be able to read the host principal keytab; I just want
libnss-ldap to use their own kerberos credentials. If I specify krb5_ccname
in /etc/libnss-ldap.conf, and the file is not readable to the user, it just
fails. This patch makes libnss-ldap attempt to try authenticating again with
the unchanged ccache if the modified ccache fails for whatever reason. It
appears to work on a test machine. (I.e. it falls back to user credentials if
the krb5_ccname credentials fail.)

No, it's a pure debian system.

Could it be a problem of the terminal as I use iso-8859-1 as terminal

It is realy strange that this problem only happens in aptitude and in no

Dear ygraph package maintainer,

The ygraph package in Ubuntu added a ygraph.desktop file so that the
users can have a desktop menu entry for ygraph. I am now sending this
change to Debian, so that you can review it and hopefully add it to the
Debian package as well.

As this is an upstream issue, I'll appreciate if you can forward this
patch to ygraph upstream as well.

The attached patch adds a debian/ygraph.desktop file, and adds two lines
in debian/rules to install this file in /usr/share/applications/ as
well as to update the desktop file database in maintainer's scripts. If
you don't like the way Ubuntu changes debian/rules, you can also use the
separately attached ygraph.desktop file.

Thanks in advance,
Ming

Waiting for /dev/ to be populated (or something similar). A second
or two after that it crash with a full stack trace. I have not been
able to get that stacktrace out yet though.

Working on a solution wiht upstream right now.

2006-11-01 Thread John Covici
Package: xserver-xorg-video-nv
Version: 1:1.2.0-3
Severity: important

When I try to start X all I get is the nvidia logo -- the virtual console is
locked at that console so I have to log in remotely and shut the system down
manually.

Here is the Xorg.0.log

If you need any other information please let me know.

Thanks.

Bug#394287: coreutils: Updated SELinux patch

2006-11-01 Thread Manoj Srivastava
Hi,

After the patches are applied, I can see that
coreutils-5.97/src/copy.h has the member preserve_security_context in
struct cp_options, inside a WITH_SELINUX guard.. Looking through
cp.c, I can see that preserve_security_context is mentioned on lines:
 248, 1143, 1540, 1681, and 1824 -- and every single time it is inside
 a WITH_SELINUX guard!

So why is the build breaking for you? Are you compiling with
 WITH_SELINUX defined?

Can you provide full logs?

Bug#396654: [INTL:bs] Bosnian translation updates to templates and new translation for program part of the debconf package

Quoting Safir Secerovic ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):
 Package: debconf

Please find attached two gzipped .po files of the Bosnian translation of
the debconf package. One is for debconf templates and another for program
 messages of the debconf program.

For the program messages, there are issues in the PO file (msgfmt -c
-o /dev/null):

Charset is utf-8. Stats: bs.po:209: a format specification for argument 1
doesn't exist in 'msgstr'
bs.po:354: 'msgstr' is not a valid Perl format string, unlike 'msgid'. Reason:
In the directive number 1, the character 'j' is not a valid conversion
specifier.
bs.po:359: 'msgstr' is not a valid Perl format string, unlike 'msgid'. Reason:
In the directive number 1, the character 'j' is not a valid conversion
specifier.
bs.po:364: 'msgstr' is not a valid Perl format string, unlike 'msgid'. Reason:
In the directive number 1, the character 'j' is not a valid conversion
specifier.
msgfmt: found 4 fatal errors

I can't commit it as is.

The debconf translation file is OK, though, and I committed it.

Bug#395262: Arch: all package FTBFS due to test needing network access - RC?

That test should add a test for root and skip it. If that is the only
reason not to build as root then that should be no excuse (post

Your unspoken premise is that there is a _reason_ to support building
packages as root. Why? I think it is better just to tell people not
 to do that.

Do some arch not have trouble with fakeroot, and need sudo to work ? This
means you need to be able to build packages as real root, no ? Or was this
fixed lately ? I think mips/mipsel, and some other arch where concerned.
