So the heuristic table is the most practical stop-gap thing to do. Greets

Bug#1049363: fake-hwclock: Packaging updates
Hi again Giole, This is the third bug against this package to add a timer. While I agree this package needs a refresh, in most cases "systemd-timesyncd" will also do the exactly same job (touching a file on HDD, ensuring the clock does not roll back...) so generally I found it's a better solution for systems running systemd. So I _was_ using fake-hwclock before but switched to systemd-timesyncd now for hosts not using full blown ntpd. Maybe fake-hwclock should Conflicts: with systemd-timesyncd at first to tip people there's not very much sense to have both, even if there would be no harm. (I guess) Greetings

Bug#1045356: game-data-packager: Can't package GOG version of wolf3d.
Hi, The GOG file should be named setup_wolfenstein_3d_1.4_(28045).exe or something similar. Alternatively you can point to a directory containing the *.WL6 files, maybe it's "/home/martin/GOG Games/Wolfenstein 3D/", I can't guess. The wolf3d.exe is not used under Debian; instead the game is played by newer wolf4sdl engine. Package: game-data-packager Version: 75 Severity: wishlist Tags: l10n Hi, The tool "tools/babel.py" helped me today to find tiny glitches in the games metadata. I should set it to run in a crontab at home. To benefit everyone it could also be part of the Salsa CI; which would publish it somewhere. (I ve seen elsewhere on GitHub CI jobs with "publishing HTML repport artifacts" step). I don't know enough of CI for now, so I tag this here in the BTS. Hi, I know mpd does not do that _on purpose_ It it's libpulse that does that (on behalf of MPD) when called from MPD with HOME=/var/lib/mpd/ > Deleting ".config" seems so arbitrary It's your own private $HOME, you can. > Whoever put it there should be changed to store it > in /run, where it will be cleaned up automatically. Bug#1050738: plocate: please add "9p" to PRUNEFS= (WSL2 support)
There's no cron/systemd by default in WSL2, /init is a stub that talks to windows Kernel, on can define an autoexec in /etc/wsl.conf but it's certainly not a default setting; latest releases of WSL2 add support for systemd which deeply intrigues me. There are a lot of complaints that the 9p bridge is genuinely slow. I don't have this computer, I'll check again when time permits. Le lun. 28 août 2023 à 22:13, Steinar H. Bug#886307: Support for Master of Magic in Debian
Hi, momime is definitively to go. https://sourceforge.net/projects/momime/ it's alive, it's GPL but the archive on SourceForge also include a full java runtime; and the .LBX files have been unpacked in individual .png files (inside momime-client.jar), which we cannot distribute. so there remain a lot of work to do: 1) someone steps in to package Momime for Debian; it's Java, I'm not interested 2) then he coordinates with GDP maintainer, eventually providing a GDP plugin that does the extraction or call an external extractor Sample unpacker tool: https://github.com/pgrudzien12/LbxTools Greetings
Bug#1002925: systemd-cron: please add support for cron.yearly
I have no power there... when I beg for something in 2014 it gets eventually done in 2022. I would also like to have a binary "crontab" splitted out of "src:cronie"; to avoid to have to manage this, but not enough will negotiate for it. Bug#995514: ITA: lua-lpeg -- LPeg library for the Lua language
Control: retitle -1 ITA: lua-lpeg -- LPeg library for the Lua language Hi, I want to adopt this package that is dependency of corsix-th game that I'm already team-maintaining. Furthermore I'de like that this package would be team-maintained under the Lua Team... so I would also de-facto join this team; but it's ok as I have a lot of lua project starting at work right now and also prospect on liberating some wiresharck filters to decode CANBUS engine payloads. Moreover I'd like to later finally step-up as a proper DD. Can you also review my pull-request against lua-lpeg and eventually give me Salsa rights for this repo ? Greetings, Alexandre Detiste

Bug#1023119: RFS: cruft-ng/0.9.47 with new dh-cruft binary package -- tool that help identify system files
Package: sponsorship-requests Severity: normal I am looking for a sponsor for my package "cruft-ng". This is a Debian native package. * Package name : cruft-ng Version : 0.9.47 Upstream contact : me * URL : https://github.com/a-detiste/cruft-ng * License : GPL+2 I have been maintaining since 2014 as a Debian Maintainer. I recenlty found how to make it much more usefull for some task at work; about 100 proprietary packages were rebuilt with this new "dh-cruft" DebHelper plugin. As a DM I don't have the right to publish a NEW package; this why I need sponsor today. Moreover, as it is the first time I have to write Perl code in 15 years I welcome some peer review. This is just temporary, I hope this will get merged into DebHelper proper. I plan to move the repository to Salsa with C.I. as soon as I get my DD namespace; or alternatively it could also be immediatly maintained under some welcoming existing Salsa group. Hi, Can you provide examples and/or an excerpt of the cruft report ? I still plan to read placate and dpkg data using C libraries instead of shelling out to popen(), as it was the case before for mlocate. Thanks a lot, I see now there's a lot more to fix.

The cruft-ng utility stumble on the same tiny useless files.

Bug#1020964: ITP: python-febelfin-coda -- Python module to parse CODA files
French and Dutch are two of the three national languages. It has nothing to do with France or Nederlands (the countries) Moreover the BEL in FeBelFin means Belgium. "Febelfin ASBL est la Fédération belge du secteur financier." https://www.feb.be/qui-nous-sommes/federations-sectorielles/banques-bourse-credit-et-placements-federation-belge-du-secteur-financier_2012-10-11/ And I spent to many years writing and reading CODA and CIRI files. CIRI has been deprecated by IBAN, but CODA remained. > It seems not: > Deze standaard bestaat eveneens in het Nederlands. > Ce standard existe également en français. Bug#291823: marked as done (cruft: some tool inspecting reports hierarchically)
So for the record I went here with NCDU instead of MC. It looks great. Here's how to invoque it: cpigs -e | ncdu -f - in the future "cpigs" could automagical detect that stdout is a TTY and in this case launch ncdu itself, for more convenience. This could be overridden by "cpigs -e | cat". [image: Screenshot_20221101_201911.png]

Bug#1028210: check-dfsg-status: add support for non-free-firmware/ and local/
Package: check-dfsg-status Version: 1.32 Severity: normal X-Debbugs-Cc: debian-devel-ga...@lists.debian.org Hi, I was playing around adding detection for "local/" in this tool. I did like how it was done for contrib/: a lot of copy-pasting. (see this ugly patch in attachment). Now I realize all this code should be copy-pasted once again for "non-free-firmware/" which feels wrong. By the way the current regexp works by luck but does not seems to work by design; so I get false positives for packages actually in (main)/locales. I would factorize this duplicated/triplicated code, but I just don't know Perl engouh. The "local/" trick could later be mandated for other tools that generate or handle locally built .deb not meant to me distributed, like "non-free" but even worse/restrictive; which now get mixed up with the official packages. Bug#923014: Add systemd unit - allow usage without cron installed
Hi, That's nucely written out, better than I could. An extra bit of policy(*) I attempt to infuse with/for systemd-cron is this one: the name of the crontab (here "apt-compat") should match the name of the main timer (here "apt-daily", so not the case yet) so that systemd-cron will ignore this one crontab and won't generate a dynamic .timer + .service in /run for this package. So my end goal for systemd-cron is that it would do nothing i.e. generate no dynamic .timer / .service pair because all crontab would have a matching static .timer shipped in the same package. I understand it's a bit convulated to wrap it's mind around this one. Bug#1030024: systemd-cron: missing Breaks+Replaces: cruft-common (<< 0.9.44)
Hi, Thank you so much. This is deeply interesting. The same bug might happen in the 495 other packages that are candidate for using dh-cruft too (the one list in "rules/" in src:cruft). I will try to fix this at once in dh-cruft instead of requiring Break+Replaces everywhere. Simplest option is to change the legacy /usr/lib/cruft/filters-unex/ API directory to something else for dh-cruft generated rules and have cruft-ng consider both the old and new location. Hi, I implemented all the corrections suggested by various people and more. I also got a lot of patches from Christian Göttsche which makes this tool quite fast for the first time ever. I think that dh-cruft is ready for it's first upload. The changelog of 0.9.47 was huge (compared to all the previous years) so I uploaded it as-is, with some fears about the DebCI integration. ...which worked but found one bug #1023336 which is actually #35042 from 1999 coming back again; it is now definitively fixed. Why does this keep happening? Look at: /var/lib/dpkg/info/python3-tk:amd64.prerm &/var/lib/dpkg/info/python3-tk:amd64.postinst It seems complicated, some complicated stuff that could be abstracted-out to some debhelper plugin and work automagically like the rest of DebHelper goodness. I have my own plugin, "dh-cruft" that's still really basic, but has some #VERSION# templating POC that has not been used yet; I will give a try to see if it can be adapted for python3-tk usage. It's right, I'm tired and do a lot of small mistakes. (but I can still spot _other's_ mistakes) I'm quite happy with this Debian release. > > BTW: pkexec is not reliable over ssh, should sudo be prefered ? > > The default to pkexec has been there since 2015 if my reading of `git > log` is correct, so I'd say now is not the time to go changing it unless > there's a bad failure mode that's likely to be common (in which case > please open a bug with steps to reproduce). I've made an separate report. BTW I'm using LXQt wich feels like an old KDE2/KDE3 so maybe things are not quite done. greetings

Hi, I had to write a workaround for this at work, because we use Buster. But it seams to be gone from Bookworm. Can you check again ?

Hi, Thanks a lot for doing this. cruft-ng won't be updated during the freezing; but one of the end-goal of this tool is to find bugs in other packages. >cruft reports the following two files: > >/usr/lib/firmware/regulatory.db >/usr/lib/firmware/regulatory.db.p7s > >The package wireless-regdb is and was never installed so I guess the >installer created them. I am not sure how to handle them, since they are >probably required on >wifi system and otherwise unnecessary. It comes from the "udeb"... https://sources.debian.org/src/debian-installer/20230401/debian/changelog/?hl=134#L134 > [ Holger Wansing ] > * Add wireless-regdb-udeb to all Linux arch images (#979104). These are tiny but well fall into the description of "cruft" on a running system and will get stale as long the real "wireless-regdb" is not installed -rw-r--r-- root/root 4492 2022-07-30 22:10 ./lib/firmware/regulatory.db -rw-r--r-- root/root 1225 2022-07-30 22:10 ./lib/firmware/regulatory.db.p7s I don"t know if it helps the distribution as a whole to file a new bug now about these two tiny files https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?pkg=debian-installer I've never digged into this before, but will gladly have a look. Greetings,
