Bug#300692: scim: Incomplete dependency

2005-03-20 Thread Andrew Lee
Package: scim
Version: 1.0.2-2
Severity: serious
Tags: patch
Justification: Policy 5.6.9.

Dear maintainer(s),

I knew only one DD for help uploading package is not enought, and I
am very appreciate that he has done so much for scim package.

I hope more DD will stand up for helping on pkg-ime project. :-)

The scim-chewing is listed in Suggests, but doesn't exist in Debian
pool yet.

The scim-chewing is an intelligent ZhuYin(bopomofo) input method for
SCIM which people mostly used in Taiwan.

So it is very an very important package for our Debian users.

It depends on libchewing package which the new version of im-sdk
package depends on it too.

Now, the libchewing and scim-chewing are both available on:
svn://svn.debian.org/pkg-ime/

Please consider to make this as a RC bug, otherwise it will be
impossible to see chewing included in Sarge.

Thank you in advance.

Bug#300168: solution to the "" compiler error

2005-03-20 Thread Christophe Prud'homme
[ Dimanche 20 Mars 2005 16:51 ]
| By expicitly making the fourth argument of
| DefineParameters in /usr/include/arpack++/arlsnsym.h (line
| 144, IIRC) as an address(by preceding it with a "&") made
| the compiler happy. Here is the relevant portion I have in
| this file now which compiles okay:

Hi

thank you for taking the time to look into the problem.

However I should have emailed you earlier :
almost none of the examples compile in arpack++ in debian because of the
compiler being more restrictive than the one used to develop arpack++.

I have modifying all the examples to comply with the new gcc compilers
but haven't yet uploaded the package.

Hopefully I will have some time soon to finish this.

Best regards
C.

|
| //**
| template
| inline ARluNonSymStdEig::
| ARluNonSymStdEig(int nevp, ARluNonSymMatrix& A,
| char* whichp, int ncvp, FLOAT tolp,
| int maxitp, FLOAT* residp, bool ishiftp)
|
| {
|
|   NoShift();
| //followin modified by HS,19Mar2005, to remove compiler error
|   //DefineParameters(A.ncols(), nevp, &A,
| ARluNonSymMatrix::MultMv,
| // whichp, ncvp, tolp, maxitp, residp,
| ishiftp);
|   DefineParameters(A.ncols(), nevp, &A,
| &ARluNonSymMatrix::MultMv,
|whichp, ncvp, tolp, maxitp, residp,
| ishiftp);
|
| } // Long constructor (regular mode).
|
| ///*
|
|
| Though that "" compiler error is gone, but
| running "make simple" in examples/nonsym directory then
| gave a "default agrument already given" compiler error in
| /usr/include/arpack++/arlgnsym.h. This was solved by
| removing the initialization of the second default argument
| at line 131 of this file in the definition:
| ChangeShift(FLOAT sigmaRp, FLOAT sigmaIp = 0.0)
|
| The revised definition now that works for me is:
| ///***
| template
| inline void ARluNonSymGenEig::
| //modified by HS,19Mar2005, to remove "default argument"
| compiler error
| //ChangeShift(FLOAT sigmaRp, FLOAT sigmaIp = 0.0)
| ChangeShift(FLOAT sigmaRp, FLOAT sigmaIp)
| ///***
|
|
| Once solving this, I am not facing other problems related
| to linking. It appears that I do not have SuperLU package
| installed. However, to compile simple.cc it doesn't seem
| to be necessary to have it installed according to the
| README file in
| /usr/share/doc/arpack++/examples/areig/nonsym/. Oh well, I
| need to install that and see if that solves these linker
| problems. But I digress from the topic of this bug :)

Bug#300681: Package Fails to build from Source in a sane way

2005-03-20 Thread Jeroen van Wolffelaar

Severity: serious

The way this package is built is not accepteble. Please fix the build
system to something that works with just dpkg-buildpackage.

From: Martin Schulze <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: Explanation

Michael Banck:

  The package builds fine like that, it's just the additional kernel
  modules which need to be built by a different script, AIUI

Steve Langasek:

  well, here's the thing. the source package does build if you run
  the normal debian/rules commands; but those binary packages that are
  built do *not* include the kernel-specific modules packages. So you
  have to go through an additional step to build the per-kernel module
  packages, which are not listed in debian/control but are present in
  the archive.

me:

  We cannot support this security-wise.

  Apart from that the package apparently fails to build from source
  (FTBFS) if

make -f debian/rules build
sudo make -f debian/rules binary

  doesn't produce all required binary packages that should end up in
  the archive.

  This is surely release-critical.

Joey

Okay, gst-launch also behaves nicely, so indeed the problem seems to be
with amarok. I was 'blaming' gst because I first noticed the problem after
upgrading gst lib/plugins...

I will now try amarok upstream (1.2.2) to see if the problem persists.

Thank you!

I did one better, I created a new user just for the purpose of testing

(Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050225

components dir of the broken-firefox content with the offical one but
that seemed not to fix anything. The only real difference between the
two binaries must therefore reside in the compiled libs that reside in
the firefox dir.

ok a bit of supposition I know, but if I knew which lib was responsible
for input editing and history lists I'd put money on that being flawed
in some way. And no, I have not browsed too closely at the source tree,
I was hoping someone else had already had more intimate knowledge than
myself.

Let me know if this is helping or hindering things? ;)

Do you have any other mysql-linked packages installed that get loaded into
apache's memory space, like libapache-mod-auth-mysql, mod_perl or mod_ruby
(using mysql stuff) and the like? We're (messily) doing a library
transition right now, and anything that hasn't been recompiled with the
newer mysql client lib will break things pretty badly until we're done.

Hi,

Your package is no longer building problem. I get the following error:

...Compiling Tux Paint from source...
src/tuxpaint.c:176:2: #error
"---"
src/tuxpaint.c:177:2: #error "If you installed SDL_image from a package, be

src/tuxpaint.c:199:2: #error
"---"
make[1]: *** [obj/tuxpaint.o] Error 1

You do seem to have both mentioned required build dependencies.

The code looks like this:
#include "SDL_image.h"
#ifndef _IMG_h
#error

#include "SDL_mixer.h"
#ifndef _MIXER_H_
#error

The first seems to be using _SDL_IMAGE_H (now?) and the
second _SDL_MIXER_H.

I find detection of presense of a header file like that a stupid
way. It should not rely on those defines.

The proper way to do this would be to have a configure script
that could then give an error message.

Kurt

H, I think this is the same as http://bugs.debian.org/281628

Though I'm kinda surprised to see it, I thought it had been fixed in
3.3.2... Actually, I haven't seen it lately, even though I haven't
upgraded yet. Also, it never caused any data loss for me.

Cheers,

I recently started applying a patch to upstream's documentation, which
required me to rebuild them from the docbook source. That documentation
referenced the DTD using an http:// url, which is the source of these,
(attempted), connections.

I've added a build dependency on docbook-xml and removed the reference
to the DTD at www.oasis-open.org.

I'll ping my sponsor for an upload, but in the meantime the packages can
be obtained from my personal repository by anyone interested.

I agree. I have recommended this to upstream, and will deal with this
problem immediately, probably by simply disabling the checks, since we
know in Debian the header files will be present.

Bug#300634: limewire: Probable remote access to arbitrary files in Limewire

2005-03-20 Thread Moritz Muehlenhoff
Package: limewire
Version: 3.4.5-2
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

Secunia reports two vulnerabilities in Limewire that allow attackers remote
access to arbitrary files. For full details see
http://secunia.com/advisories/14555

Note: Limewire has been orphaned for a long time now (it's latest upload
nearly 1.5 years ago) and it therefore badly out-of-sync with upstream.
Secunia claims Limewire versions from 3.9.6 to 4.6.0 vulnerable, but it
should be double-checked, whether Sarge's out-dated version is affected
as well.

I guess the correct fix is a removal of Limewire; a moving target like
filesharing will hardly be useful after 1.5 years and will definitely
become fully unusable during Sarge's stable lifecycle.

There are not CAN IDs yet.

Bug#300632: tuxpaint: FTBFS: Changed header files.

2005-03-20 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Package: tuxpaint
Version: 1:0.9.14-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

Your package is no longer building problem. I get the following error:

...Compiling Tux Paint from source...
src/tuxpaint.c:176:2: #error
"---"
src/tuxpaint.c:177:2: #error "If you installed SDL_image from a package, be

src/tuxpaint.c:199:2: #error
"---"
make[1]: *** [obj/tuxpaint.o] Error 1

You do seem to have both mentioned required build dependencies.

The code looks like this:
#include "SDL_image.h"
#ifndef _IMG_h
#error

#include "SDL_mixer.h"
#ifndef _MIXER_H_
#error

The first seems to be using _SDL_IMAGE_H (now?) and the
second _SDL_MIXER_H.

I find detection of presense of a header file like that a stupid
way. It should not rely on those defines.

The proper way to do this would be to have a configure script
that could then give an error message.

Kurt

There is no version of muine in testing, it was removed months ago along
with all other mono packages to prevent it entering sarge.

Sounds to me like gstreamer0.8's "stable" api has broken things again.

Package: libosip2
Version: 2.0.9-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

The new libosip2 2.0.9 package, which I upgraded to this morning, seems
to break siproxd, with the error:

/usr/sbin/siproxd: relocation error: /usr/sbin/siproxd: undefined symbol:
osip_free

Looking at the old 2.0.6 lib compared to 2.0.9:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ nm -D /usr/lib/libosip2.so.2.0.6 | grep osip_free
 U osip_free
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ nm -D libosip2.so.2.0.9 | grep osip_free
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$

This looks like the ABI has changed between 2.0.6 and 2.0.9. Shouldn't
the soname have also changed or do I misunderstand that problem?

Dropping back to 2.0.6 makes siproxd work for me again.

siproxd version is 0.57.snap040720-2

Package: libnss-mysql
Version: 0.43-2
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

I have libnss-mysql installed and it seemed to be working correctly. Running
/usr/bin/getent successfully pulls the entries from MySQL. I have my
/etc/nsswitch.conf confiured like such:

passwd: compat mysql
group:  compat mysql
shadow: compat mysql

I went to install a package (stunnel4) after I had configured libnss-mysql and
the install failed due to a segfault of /usr/sbin/adduser. I ran
/usr/sbin/adduser
by hand to collect a core and ran gdb with a backtrace:

(gdb) back

If I remove mysql from /etc/nsswitch.conf this problem goes away.

I had lines:
file   = /var/log/syslog
ping   = 192.168.0.1
interface  = eth0
interface  = eth1
min-memory = 1
pidfile= /var/run/syslogd.pid

I had 101/2 errors in mails from watchdog so lines with eth and file
are forcing restart of the system (was trying few setups).

the problem is:
ping and eth1 is my local network working all the time on static
settings. eth0 is getting address from dhcp but I was trying
configuration with eth0 line commented.
After first restart watchdog was rebooting my computer just after
start of the deamon.

in my setup watchdog is checking all resources every 10sec (default
time). but the problem is that it is rebooting computer if there is
a single problem with pid/file/ping and so on.

this is also the case.

for now I can only say that it should not restart computer in a case of
single failure (upgrade of deamons) and that it should be started later
in boot process.

I do not know why it was rebooting my computer with file/interface
or ping configured.

my mainboard is dual pentium II but I do not think that it should be
a problem.

I started up watchdog on the other P IV 3.0 GHz machine and it was
working without a problem for at least few hours. I will see tomorrow if
it is forcing restart on that machine as it has similar configuration
to my server with pidfile/ping/interface/file line uncommented and
configured.

Bug#300614: kmail: deletes emails when manually applying a filter for all messages in inbox manually

2005-03-20 Thread Tim Michelsen
Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.3.2-2
Severity: critical
Justification: causes serious data loss

After definig a new filter, I pressed CTRL+A to mark all messages in Inbox,
then I pressed CTRL+J to apply a filter manually.
After that the Kmail window got white, nothing was going anymore. The
programm had kinda overflow. I rebooted because I wasn't able to do a
killall kmail.
When opening Kmail again all messages in inbox got marked as From "unknow"
and Subject "unknow". Some messages were still had the right subject and
sender but when I wanted to read them they got the invailid marker as well =
I lost all mails in inbox - even those which contained some important data!

Kmail had often shown this behavior after pressding ^C+A and then ^C+J. but
this was the first time it deleted data.

Package: php4-lasso
Severity: grave
Tags: sid

Due to recent changes in the php4 packages, your package has become
uninstallable
in sid (as of today's dinstall run, installing php4_4:4.3.10-3). We are now
building php4 with "Zend Thread Safety" which both changes the ABI and changes
the directory that extensions should be installed into.

To build a new package, you need to do three things:

1) build-dep on "php4-dev (>= 4:4.3.10-3)" (you can pull it from incoming to get
   a head start. The buildds already do)
2) ensure that your phpapi dependency has "-zts" tacked to the end of it.
   for examples on how to do so, see the debian/rules in php4-pgsql_3:4.3.10-1
3) Make sure that your extension installs to the correct directory
   (you do use `php-config --extension-dir`, don't you?)

That should be it.

Due to the simplicity and non-intrusiveness of these changes, if I don't see
uploads in the next 24 hours, I will happily NMU to fix the affected packages.

Ok, as I said I appreciate your efforts. From a maintainer's point of
view though, I think a two days old bug on an actively maintained
package doesn't warrant a zero-day NMU that replaces the upstream
source.

Shouldn't you know when doing the upload? Please first check whether a
bug report actually reports a real bug. Unfortunately ``knowcking out''
the NMU isn't possibly AFAIK, you replaced the package source in the
Debian archive. IMO you should either have contacted me before, or
used an urgency medium, and upload the NMU to a some-day delay queue;
it's the same effect to the package, but gives the maintainer some time
to re-act. Now I have to deal with the broken upstream source in Debian
sid.

Thanks, Gerrit.

Bug#299931: libgstreamer0.8: amarok/gstreamer huge memory hole

 Rhythmbox uses GStreamer, if you can starve Rhythmbox reading your stream
 in the way you starved amarok, and amarok crashes, but not
 Rhythmbox, it is most probably an amarok bug of course.

 Could you try to clarify this?

 You can also try to load your network connection while running this
 command which emulates the behavior of Rhythmbox:
gst-launch-0.8 gnomevfssrc location=/path/to/my/musicfile.ogg ! \
spider ! volume ! audioscale ! audioconvert ! $(gconftool-2 \
-g /system/gstreamer/0.8/default/audiosink)

 (Replace "/path/to/my/musicfile.ogg" with "http://your_stream.mp3";.)

 I hope this will help clarify which program is responsible for the
 problem.

   Bye,

Please remove the Recommends: aspell-dictionary dependency. First of
all, it's redundant since libaspell15 already Recommends it. And,
second of all, I'm renaming it to aspell6-dictionary as part of the
transition to Aspell 0.60.

Thanks,

  Yep, seems so. Also the #294807 can be closed. Thanks for reminding ;)

  Yes, is the same schema used by upstream.

  Experimental packages come from CVS while unstable ones come from
releases. I don't see how a CVS version can be lower than the release
one of the same software... am I missing something?

101 is "network unreachable", 2 means "no such file". Neither one should
be a possible return value for a memory check for instance.

Do you mean it gets an event every 10 seconds? Or do you mean it just gets any
event?

This seems to imply that restarting a server process triggers watchdog
and thus reboots the system. Is this the case?

Uups. These shouldn't be there, they should be in
/usr/share/emacs21/site-lisp/auctex, note the "21". Previously you sent
me the file CompilationLog.gz, but I lost it because you sent it
directly to me instead to the bug number address. Could you please send
it again, and tell us again in which directory it was?

This is the correct, unchanged file.

Bug#298173: RC bugs for sylpheed

2005-03-20 Thread Justin Pryzby
Hi,

It seems that #294604 can be closed, and #298173 can be tag =
sarge,woody,security.  Correct?

BTW: I noticed a strange version numbering in the experimental
packages. Is this intentional? It seems to me that people who had
installed the experimental versions would have to actively force the
downgrade to the current unstable version.

Thanks,
Justin

I don't seem to be able to replicate this bug on sarge, with gjdoc
0.6.1-14 and junit 3.8.1.1-2. I wonder if the "sarge" tag Steve Langasek
added is actually appropriate. If not, the bug should be possible to
close, since it is fixed in sid already.

DSA-693-1 claimed that the security hole CAN-2005-0385 was fixed in
unstable in luxman 0.41-20, but it's been two days and I do not see that
version has been uploaded.=20

Some details on the hole from the DSA:

Kevin Finisterre discovered a buffer overflow in luxman, an SVGA based =
PacMan clone, that could lead to the execution of arbitrary commands as roo=
t.

For the stable distribution (woody) this problem has been fixed in vers=
ion 0.41-17.2.

For the unstable distribution (sid) this problem has been fixed in vers=
ion 0.41-20.

We recommend that you upgrade your luxman package.

Additional details were posted on bugtraq, but I don't have an url handy.

Bug#299875: ppp: out-of-memory 30min after "LCP terminated by peer"

2005-03-20 Thread Christian Kujau
Justin Pryzby wrote:

i don't even have to patch the kernel. i tried with 2.6.11-rc5-bk2, same
thing. but (only!) downgrading ppp_2.4.2 (current is ppp_2.4.3) did the trick.

> And, if you have *just* the kernel patch, /usr/sbin/pppd hangs, but
> doesn't crash the system?

with (current) ppp_2.4.3 pppd hangs, but does not crash the kernel.

as a side note: the kernel never really crashed, but the kernel's OOM
killer kicked in because i kept running a script (via cron), which was
checking internet-connectivity. when pppd decided to hang and was not
kill'able via -TERM, the script went nuts and started itsself again and
gain. i noticed that always 30min after pppd's hang the machine went OOM.
by then, the script must have been started 2000times or so. really, OOM is
not longer the issue here, it's "just" pppd hanging, so i even could set
this report from "critical" not "normal", as i seem to be the only one
crying here.

thanks,
Christian.

Bug#300168: solution to the "" compiler error

2005-03-20 Thread H. S.
By expicitly making the fourth argument of
DefineParameters in /usr/include/arpack++/arlsnsym.h (line
144, IIRC) as an address(by preceding it with a "&") made
the compiler happy. Here is the relevant portion I have in
this file now which compiles okay:

//**
template
inline ARluNonSymStdEig::
ARluNonSymStdEig(int nevp, ARluNonSymMatrix& A,
 char* whichp, int ncvp, FLOAT tolp,
 int maxitp, FLOAT* residp, bool ishiftp)

{

  NoShift();
  //followin modified by HS,19Mar2005, to remove compiler error
  //DefineParameters(A.ncols(), nevp, &A,
ARluNonSymMatrix::MultMv,
  // whichp, ncvp, tolp, maxitp, residp,
ishiftp);
  DefineParameters(A.ncols(), nevp, &A,
&ARluNonSymMatrix::MultMv,
   whichp, ncvp, tolp, maxitp, residp,
ishiftp);

} // Long constructor (regular mode).

///*

Though that "" compiler error is gone, but
running "make simple" in examples/nonsym directory then
gave a "default agrument already given" compiler error in
/usr/include/arpack++/arlgnsym.h. This was solved by
removing the initialization of the second default argument
at line 131 of this file in the definition:
ChangeShift(FLOAT sigmaRp, FLOAT sigmaIp = 0.0)

The revised definition now that works for me is:
///***
template
inline void ARluNonSymGenEig::
//modified by HS,19Mar2005, to remove "default argument"
compiler error
//ChangeShift(FLOAT sigmaRp, FLOAT sigmaIp = 0.0)
ChangeShift(FLOAT sigmaRp, FLOAT sigmaIp)
///***

Once solving this, I am not facing other problems related
to linking. It appears that I do not have SuperLU package
installed. However, to compile simple.cc it doesn't seem
to be necessary to have it installed according to the
README file in
/usr/share/doc/arpack++/examples/areig/nonsym/. Oh well, I
need to install that and see if that solves these linker
problems. But I digress from the topic of this bug :)

sorry, took off for vac before testing this, and won't have time for
another week. in the meantime, i think christian is looking into whether
or not the latest mysql vulnerabilities also affect woody, in which case
it might make sense to just wait and roll them all together since this
one isn't all that severe and has been open for so long anyways.

Sean, I tried to apply your patch yesterday evening but it did not compile
against the last released 3.23.49-x.9 - can you check if you send me the
complete patch?

I alreay opened a bug report for this with patch attached. Woody is
vulnerable but the patches were easily backportable.

Okay. Do I correctly understand that kernel patch + downgrade solves

And, if you have *just* the kernel patch, /usr/sbin/pppd hangs, but
doesn't crash the system?

SableVM claims this is fixed in latest upload, 1.11.1-1 or so. I haven't
checked it. Please try with latest SableVM and close this bug if its
fixed.

apt-build segfaults when using make_options
This appears to be due to a typo in config.c (line 141)
if(args.make_options &&
strlen(args.options) &&
(str = strtok(args.options, " ")))
{

The code appears to check the validity of the wrong pointer, and should
be...

if(args.options &&
strlen(args.options) &&
(str = strtok(args.options, " ")))
{

This fixes the seg-fault problem

Package: hotplug
Version: 0.0.20040329-17
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable
Tags: patch

At boot time nothing hotplug related appears on the screen, not even
something like "Starting hotplug subsystem". When inserting a
pendrive it is unmountable (/dev/sda1 does not exist).
(This is the only thing I use hotplug for.)

The init script /etc/init.d/hotplug seems to have no effect:
when called with no argument it prints a usage message
(as expected), when called
with 'restart' or 'status' it does not print anything and nothing
seems to happen. The pendrive remains unmountable.

I think the problem is that the init script /etc/init.d/hotplug
  (1) runs under "sh -e" so it exits immediately when a command
  returns non-zero
  (as described in the output of 'sh -c "help set"');
  (2) uses "unset" to unset variables which are not known to be set.
  The unset command returns non-zero when applied to a
  read-only or unset variable (see the bash man page).

For example, when the prune command is first called, it immediately
unsets prune_discard and prune_output which were not set before.
Also when invoking the script with argument "status" the QUIET
variable is unset though it may not be set.

The following patch, which works for me, replaces "unset VARIABLE"
with "unset VARIABLE || true" so that unsetting variables which need
not be set does not stop the script unwantedly. This may introduce
problems when prune_output or prune_discard is read-only for some
reason.

Bug#300573: sylpheed-claws-vcalendar-plugin: FTBFS on various arches: outdated libtool and PIC issues.

2005-03-20 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Package: sylpheed-claws-vcalendar-plugin
Version: 0.9-1
Severity: serious
Tags: sid

Hi,

Your package is failing to build on various arches because the
libical directory is using a very old version of libtool (1.3.4).
Please update that to the latest version.

It's also trying to make a shared library without using -fPIC.
This also causes build failures on other arches and is probably
the result of not using libtool properly. It also linking
staticly to it, so it should probably be easy to work around
that.

Is there a reason that libical isn't a seperate package? Can it
be useful for other programs to link to?

Bug#299875: ppp: out-of-memory 30min after "LCP terminated by peer"

2005-03-20 Thread Christian Kujau
hi again,

sorry for the delay, but the "bug" triggers only when the remote peer
disconnects me - and it does it only once a day.

Marco d'Itri wrote:
> reassign 299875 kernel
> retitle 299875 CAN-2005-0384: Remote Linux DoS on ppp servers
> tag 299875 patch security

yes, it really looks like a "pppd DoS", but as i suspected, things are a
bit different here:

- pppoe receives PADT from peer
- pppd in turn gets "LCP terminated by peer"
- pppd tries to re-establish the connection, says "Starting link" in the
  logfile [1] and then just hangs.

i have to re-adjust the subject line, because OOM was triggered by
something else, *because* pppd did not succeed to re-establish the
connection. but oom is totally unrelated here (and fixed on my system).

but still: pppd hangs and is only killable via "kill -9". but it is *NOT*
a cpu hog as stated by Paul Mackerras.

i've strace'd the hanging pppd:

http://nerdbynature.de/bits/sheep/2.6.11/oom/pppd_2.6.11.4.log

(the very first line is the only one i get from just doing
 "strace -p `pidof pppd`", then i did "killall pppd, then with -9)

to summarise: i've noticed the pppd behaviour first with 2.6.11, then with
2.6.11-rc5-bk2, now with 2.6.11.3 and 2.6.11.4. downgrading to
ppp_2.4.2+20040428-6_i386 "solves" it.

thank you for your time,
Christian.

PS: i'll close the issue i reported on lkml:

Bug#300560: mldonkey-server: downloads.ini writable by group users, world-readable

2005-03-20 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Package: mldonkey-server
Version: 2.5.28-2

Justification: user security hole

Sylvain,

thank you for your work to package mldonkey-server. downloads.ini is created
with permissions for the group users to write the file
and thus change the admin password, this should not be the case. Furthermore,
the file is world-readable which IMHO should not be
allowed either.

Best

Rolf

First of all sorry for the late reply, I was gone for the weekend :-)

It is repeatable: In amarok the memory-eating seems to happen only on streams
(tried several ones, all MP3), but only when amarok starts to re-buffer the
stream: I listened to a stream and the memory stayed constant in top, then i
started bittorrent as a bandwidth hog and as soon as the playback stopped for
re-buffering the memory usage started to go up (at a rate of >= 1MB/s). There
is also a good chance that amarok's gui will freeze at this point when I press
'stop'.

Rhythmbox does not seem to suffer from the memory problem, but I could not
really tell if it was actually using gst or xine for streaming... (since
amarok/xine works too). I could not get Muine to run.

cheers,
Christian

Bug#300543: libruby1.8: missing replaces/conflicts on rubyunit

2005-03-20 Thread Yann Dirson
Package: libruby1.8
Version: 1.8.2-2
Severity: serious

Preparing to replace libruby1.8 1.8.2-2 (using .../libruby1.8_1.8.2-3_i386.deb)
...
Unpacking replacement libruby1.8 ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/libruby1.8_1.8.2-3_i386.deb
(--unpack):
 trying to overwrite `/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubyunit.rb', which is also in package
rubyunit
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)

Since rubyunit is not even in sarge any more, I suppose new ruby
packages should replace/conflict with it, to ensure its removal.

Currently it would break upgrades from woody when that package is
installed.

Package: libdc0
Version: 0.3.2-1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 7.3

"A Conflicts entry should almost never have an "earlier than" version
clause. This would prevent dpkg from upgrading or installing the package
which declared such a conflict until the upgrade or removal of the
conflicted-with package had been completed."

Package: libdc0
Version: 0.3.7-1
Conflicts: dcgui-qt (<< 0.3.3)

Package: dcgui-qt
Version: 0.3.2-2
Depends: ... libdc0 (>= 0.3.1) ...

It is now impossible to install dcgui-qt because it depends on libdc0,
which in turn conflicts with it. Policy states that versioned conflicts
with less than clauses are horribly broken - dpkg will not be able to
upgrade libdc0 and dcgui-qt in the same run, because dcgui-qt will need
to be FULLY UNINSTALLED (as is the definition of Conflicts) before libdc0
can be upgraded, so you will need to invoke dpkg once to remove
dcgui-qt, and then again to install libdc0 and upgrade dcgui-qt.

If the reason for adding this conflict is that libdc0 has broken binary
compatibility, then the shlibs file of libdc-dev should make the
resultant libdc0 dependency more version-specific. This is not the
correct way to deal with breaking ABIs.

Regards,
Rob

Sorry for being so clueless ... after reading all posts ...

A possible fix could be to automatically allow special files when --dump or
--source is used. Also, checking for non-empty command line URL list should be
done before trying to read from /dev/stdin so it doesn't happen when an URL was
given.
