Please update the build-depends to ocaml-nox-3.08.3. Bye, Aurelien Off course, i know. I will try to fix this, but i will also need to upgrade to the latest version before. Bug#303218: We are working on it
This is just for the record, that we are working on a new revision. There are interferences between the configure and ant build method available in this package - which does no harm on my i386 system but prevents building on powerpc by Arnaud. We have to figure some things out and are currently both a bit in time problems - but be sure it will be worked out in the next days. Bug#293974: Claim about icewm cannot be reproduced
severity 293974 normal thanks Hi, the claim that icewm doesn't use ~/.icewm/preferences is not true. icewm 1.2.20+21pre1-3 (on a 'unstable' machine here, the same version is in testing) very well respects ~/.icewm/preferences in its default configuration. Please substantiate your claim, i will close the bug otherwise. A Bug report against icewm should be the more correct way. Even if your claim substantiates, this is no justification for 'grave' severity. Even if icewm wouldn't respect ~/.icewm/preferences, this doesn't render the package unusable. n'cu Stefan Rink -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? However, this would make the 'ruby1.8' package depend on itself, which does not seem to be a good idea. Please don't do that. The previous version 1.8.2-3 did not have this problem. At the time, there were 2 cdroms in the machine. Removing one resolved the issue, so I never bothered to report it. Bug#301671: apt-listbugs: cron.daily destroys the contents of symlinked /etc/apt/preferences
Thanks for the quick reply, Steve. I didn't mean to imply that it wasn't a good reason. I take it that all such removals are documented by the RC bugs. The contents of the preferences file seem to get destroyed by the line: /usr/share/apt-listbugs/aptcleanup /etc/apt/preferences.apt-listbugs.$$ when it is writing to the same file it is reading from. Perhaps something more like: (stealing shamelessly from /etc/cron.monthly/acct) #!/bin/sh -e prefclean() { test -x /usr/share/apt-listbugs/aptcleanup || return 0 test -x /usr/sbin/apt-listbugs || return 0 test -f /etc/apt/preferences || return 0 PTMP=$(tempfile) /usr/share/apt-listbugs/aptcleanup $PTMP if ! diff $PTMP /etc/apt/preferences /dev/null; then savelog /etc/apt/preferences mv $PTMP /etc/apt/preferences fi /bin/rm -f $PTMP } prefclean savelog doesn't seem to handle the symlink either. better options might be something along the lines of cp -aH /etc/apt/preferences /etc/apt/preferences.0 or resolving the symlink and rotating in the parent directory of the file. (the difference between making the backup at the client or the server in Zed's configuration where preferences is mounted shared from a server) or perhaps savelog should. Bug#304174: exim4: Patch for 296492 introduced remotely exploitable infinite loop (DOS)
Package: exim4 Version: 4.50-5 Severity: grave Tags: security sid patch Justification: remote exploitable DOS The patch for 296492, which is currently in sid's 4.50-5, introduced an infinite loop which could be triggered by a remote site with (intentionally?) misconfigured DNS. It is discussed in: http://www.exim.org/mail-archives/exim-users/Week-of-Mon-20050404/msg00062.html The patch to fix this is in: http://www.exim.org/mail-archives/exim-users/Week-of-Mon-20050404/msg00152.html I'm not certain, but I think that this patch _replaces_ the patch applied to fix 296492, rather than patching it. I hope I've set the tags and severity for this bug correctly to indicate that it's an RC bug that should keep 4.50-5 out of sarge, but does not apply to 4.50-4 which is currently in sarge. - Marc -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#302269: fontconfig: Segmentation fault with certain bdf fonts
The attached patch to libfreetype6 seems to fix the fontconfig segfault for me. I don't understand fonts, of fontconfig, however, so I might be completely wrong. I just traced the problem in gdb and read the code until I found something that seemed like the likely culprit. Jason, this is just for your information, if you don't want to (or don't know how to) apply the patch to the libfreetype6 sources. Anthony, this seems to be a bug in your package? I understand you've been busy with other things (which is fine, I'm not complaining); do you have time to check this out? Keith, according to my analysis, the problem is in libfreetype6, but Anthony Fok, who maintains it, seems to not have been active for a while. Assuming you understand font stuff better than I do, could you have a quick look and check that my fix is correct? If I can be convinced that this patch is right, and Anthony does not have the time to do an upload of libfreetype6, I can do a non-maintainer upload. Hopefully this has been useful. Bug#304188: /etc/init.d/ifupdown startup script fails when /usr is NFS mounted
Package: ifupdown Version: 0.6.6 Severity: critical Justification: breaks the whole system The /etc/init.d/ifupdown script relies on basename and dirname being available on bootup. This is however not the case if /usr is NFS mounted, as basename and dirname both are in /usr/bin. As NFS mounts obviously require network interfaces to be up, /etc/init.d/ifupdown start loops because neither basename nor dirname can be found. Thus the whole system is unusable. A (temporary ?) fix for this situation is to copy /usr/bin/basename and /usr/bin/dirname to /bin. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.10-1-k7 Locale: LANG=fr_FR, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages ifupdown depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.4.47 Debian configuration management sy ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-20 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii net-tools 1.60-10 The NET-3 networking toolkit -- debconf information: ifupdown/convert-interfaces: true -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Yes, exactly, thinking about upgrade to 2.3.4, it should not make a problem. I'm rathar a bit nervous of supporting this special situation (ex: distro compatibility and so on) because -21 should be the last call for sarge stuff... Could you explain what it is you're worried about? We absolutely ought to have this patch... OK, I put the patch. Currently I found the problem about schedutils. Once schedutils `taskset' command uses new sched_getaffinity and sched_setaffinity interface (which has GLIBC_2.3.4), schedutils has to depend on glibc = 2.3.2.ds1-21. I'm currently searching how to set Depends: libc6 (= 2.3.2.ds1-21) or libc6.1 (= 2.3.2.ds1-21) [ia64, alpha] for schedutils. BTW, if we change the library exported symbol version, GLIBC_2.3.4, we should always bump up our shlibs from 2.3.2.ds1-4 to 2.3.2.ds1-21. However, such change affects almost all binaries. Is this acceptable? IMHO, changing shlibs affects a lot of packages, so I would like to take the workaround fix - schedutils and fakeroot just have special Depends: = 2.3.2.ds1-21, because I guess sched_{get,set}affinity is not used widely. Bug#304174: exim4: Patch for 296492 introduced remotely exploitable infinite loop (DOS)
tags 304174 pending # fixed in SVN thanks On 2005-04-11 Marc Sherman [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Package: exim4 Version: 4.50-5 [...] The patch for 296492, which is currently in sid's 4.50-5, introduced an infinite loop which could be triggered by a remote site with (intentionally?) misconfigured DNS. It is discussed in: http://www.exim.org/mail-archives/exim-users/Week-of-Mon-20050404/msg00062.html [...] This is already applied in SVN and there'll probably be an upload on wednesday, latest. I hope I've set the tags and severity for this bug correctly to indicate that it's an RC bug that should keep 4.50-5 out of sarge, but does not apply to 4.50-4 which is currently in sarge. I think so. FWIW there is actually no danger of 4.50-4 propagating to sarge _automatically_, exim4 is frozen and can only go in if one of the release managers kicks it. ;-) cu andreas -- See, I told you they'd listen to Reason, [SPOILER] Svfurlr fnlf, fuhggvat qbja gur juveyvat tha. Bug#304089: [PPC] Enable -mvrsave=yes by default
On 10 2005 23:32, Matthias Klose wrote: Konstantinos Margaritis writes: Package: gcc-3.4 Version: 3.4.3-12 Severity: grave Apparently latest packages of gcc-3.4 have disabled -mvrsave=yes for powerpc. This breaks existing software which uses Altivec and it's also wrong. Even worse, it's not documented in the changelog (Debian or normal). The code that is produced is unstable. Please enable it by default. which Debian version did have the old behaviour? Well, gcc 3.3 has -mvrsave=yes by default and also _I think_ the previous version of gcc i used (3.4.3-6) . It was after the upgrade to -12 that I noticed some strange behaviour in my programs and it was just then that I checked and found after a lot of frustration that it's turned off. I have discussed this with other powerpc developers (though on irc only, i don't have anything in email, and not only Debian developers) and they all confirm that this is a wrong and confusing move. At the very least it should post a warning when it finds altivec code, that -mvrsave is disabled. I don't deny that there are a few cases where the developer might want to leave it disabled, but these are the exceptions not the norm. Please, reenable it, or at the very least put a warning and some entry in the changelog about this. It's truly too dangerous to leave it like that. Konstantinos

Since Blackdown 1.3 and IBM 1.4 are what's available for PowerPC right now, I am not able to build this package without altering DBCP. The Tomcat 4 source requires the JDK to have some Sun security classes that IBM does not have. So, if Arnaud or Stefan could build tomcat4 with what I have checked in and sponsor an upload, we will likely have resolved this issue and gotten tomcat4 back into Sarge. The issue is supposed to be fixed in CVS, I succesfully built a new version of the package with it, after having reviewed the diff and found the current CVS to be okay. Barry Hawkins will soonishly test my builds, and when the tests turn out to be succesful, I'll sign upload. --Jeroen -- Jeroen van Wolffelaar [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://jeroen.A-Eskwadraat.nl -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#304089: [PPC] Enable -mvrsave=yes by default
On Mon, Apr 11, 2005 at 08:59:38PM +0300, Konstantinos Margaritis wrote: On ?? 10 2005 23:32, Matthias Klose wrote: Konstantinos Margaritis writes: Package: gcc-3.4 Version: 3.4.3-12 Severity: grave Apparently latest packages of gcc-3.4 have disabled -mvrsave=yes for powerpc. How odd. Matthias, I can reproduce this in 3.3.4-13, but not in 3.4.3-7. Compile this (crappy) testcase with -O2 -maltivec -mabi=altivec, and with -mvrsave=yes/-mvrsave=no: #include altivec.h void bar(); vector int ret(); void arg(vector int, ...); int foo() { vector int q = ret(), t = ret(), z, a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h; z = vec_add (q, t); a = vec_add (z, t); b = vec_add (a, t); c = vec_add (b, t); d = vec_add (c, t); e = vec_add (d, t); f = vec_add (e, c); g = vec_add (f, t); h = vec_add (g, z); bar (); z = vec_add (h, vec_add (z, t)); arg (z, a, b, d, h); } Konstantinos, I strongly suspect this was a bug in GCC 3.3. The Linux kernel does not pay attention to vrsave in 32-bit mode: * If the previous thread used altivec in the last quantum * (thus changing altivec regs) then save them. * We used to check the VRSAVE register but not all apps * set it, so we don't rely on it now (and in fact we need * to save restore VSCR even if VRSAVE == 0). -- paulus So if you insist that GCC needs to fiddle the register, when nothing is looking at it, you'll need some better reason why. -- Daniel Jacobowitz CodeSourcery, LLC -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#291757: evolution: Upgrade from 1.4.6 to 2.0.3 fails and Evolution is *UNUSABLE*
Tore Anderson wrote: * Onno Benschop The bug basically states that during migration from 1.4.x to 2.x, the conversion of the mailbox data fails. Does this affect upgrades from Evolution 1.0.5 as well? If not, it simply /cannot/ be considered release critical, as 1.0.5 is the version currently found in Woody. The short answer, Yes, I strongly *suspect* it does. The long answer: I don't have Evolution 1.0.5 installed, so I have not been able to test this, and I'm not confident that installing an older version of Evolution would actually migrate my mail data back, but the original bug report showed this URL: http://bugzilla.ximian.com/show_bug.cgi?id=69566 Which has been moved to here: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=269566 This bug is now marked Major and is slated for 2.2, and it has many reports associated with it. On 22 February, 2005, JP Rosevear stated: (Comment #27 in the bug report) http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=269566#c27 So we've prevented the crash now. It seems to happen when e-d-s can't load for some reason. We'll see what happens with new reports. This makes me suspect that the bug has been resolved in their CVS, but I suspect that Debian isn't using that fixed version at this stage. *However*, I note that v2.2.1 is now in Unstable, which if I'm reading correctly from the Gnome Bugzilla does not have this problem. So, I would propose that this bug stay open until v2.2.1 is in Testing, then I'll do another migration using the backed up mail data from 1.4.6 and test again. If you've gotten to here wondering if I'm ever actually going to answer your question about v1.0.5, here it is: While I understand and completely agree with your sentiment about upgrading from Woody, Evolution 1.0.5, to 2.0.3, I strongly suspect that v1.0.5 is affected, though I do not have any actual proof of that. Bug#243007: New download application
How have you been, Wanna download anything you want? http://bicone.destingan.com/?a=409 See you later, Jo Lewis Jack is not missing singing near the station.. Toren came to me at age 32 months. He had 2 words: Ma Ma and Bye Bye. He could not focus, but ran around the room. His mother was convinced I was going to have him cured by his third birthday. I told her I was no miracle worker, but we'd do what we could during the next 4 months. Immediately we started structuring Toren's day. I went home and worked up a program called 'Toren's Nouns'. The first day I showed Toren the program, he looked at it for 10-15 seconds and then left the computer. The next day he stayed about 30 seconds. Each day he built up more time at the computer. By the second week, he would sit on my lap for 10 minutes pressing whichever word he wanted to hear. But he spoke no sounds, no words. Three weeks passed. I began berating myself. 'See, Jo, you thought this noun program was so great. Look at Toren, he's not learning anything.' The fourth week Toren walked over to the computer, picked up the overlay from the Intel liKeys keyboard, pointed to 10 different words and approximated each word. That day, I cried.. green grape yellow banana orange banana orange peach cyan peach purple mango Then I started 'teaching'. You know, I'm a good teacher. (Well, maybe just an average teacher, but you get the jist). I know what good teachers do. Or I thought I did. I sat with the children at the computer. When they pressed the IntelliKeys' keyboard or the Touch Window' and the computer said the word, I repeated the word and then expanded on the word. After they had pressed the same word several times, I said, "That's right, that's a cat, can you find the dog?? Suddenly, I would see the child's back get stiff, and before you knew it, he got up and left the computer. I didn't understand. Just a few seconds ago, he loved it. What happened?. That computer programmer isn't enjoying swimming behind the post office right at this time.
Bug#303057: slapd goes into endless sched_yield() loop

After torturing my setup with different scripts and trying to to rebuild the normal workload, I am confident, after having run watch -n1 -d db4.2_stat -c for some time in parallel, the sched_yield() loop occurs, because the bdb-backend runs out of lockers. At least this is what I get from ITS#2030 and from various other resources (mostly documentation from Sleepycat). So I suggest for the package to create a DB_CONFIG with _at least_ 5000 lockers, locks and lock objects. The default of 1000 is just to low and will get exploitet in no time by even a little database. (Don't close this bug yet, further observation has to happen.) Why did upstream only request that a few arch's have mono-mint removed, and not the others (alpha, arm, s390, sparc)? Also: mono hasn't been tried on arm since 20040610-1450 (0.91-1). http://buildd.debian.org/stats/arm-all.txt says: interpreters/mono_1.0.1-1: Dep-Wait by buildd_arm-elara [optional:out-of-date] Dependencies: libicu28-dev Previous state was Building until 2004 Jun 26 08:45:53 and: devel/monodevelop_0.5-2: Dep-Wait by buildd_arm-europa [optional:uncompiled] Dependencies: gtk-sharp-gapi Previous state was Building until 2004 Jun 09 18:23:07 [...] web/mod-mono_1.0-1: Needs-Build [optional:uncompiled] Previous state was Building until 2004 Aug 13 18:10:26 libicu28-dev doesn't exist on arm! Therefore there's a ftbfs on arm. Perhaps there's another icu development package? Also: mono-assemblies-arch (source mcs) is out of date on s390. mcs also requires that s390 builds mono-jay. Also: easy mono mcs from debian-release (Release Managers) is needed when the packages are ready? Bug#297769: patch
At Mon, 11 Apr 2005 12:35:29 -0400, Daniel Jacobowitz wrote: On Tue, Apr 12, 2005 at 01:30:08AM +0900, GOTO Masanori wrote: OK, I put the patch. I think that we should just be bumping the shlibdeps; the release team has already agreed that we need a glibc update for sarge. I think it's not same issue; bumping shlib version is not glibc bug fix update. In any case, the best way to do what you want in schedutils mightb be: Depends: ${shlib:Depends} Back to the original suggestion by David Mosberger was: the recent sources (ex: Lmbench3) use new sched_{set,get}affinity syscalls, so such programs will need to consider debian's old syscalls interfaces in future. Thus, this change does _NOT_ affect any current debian archives. These old syscalls are used by only fakeroot and schedutils, and the current fakeroot/schedutils .debs do not use new syscalls. When we think only for debian, this change is not useful at all. In other words, this modification focuses on only unknown unbounded NON-DEBIAN sources or binaries (even if old interfaces are incorrect). I concern to bump up shlib version - I don't know why I'm worrying, but at least when we discussed about this issue, we didn't anticipate that adding new symbols makes additional consideration - I still think bumping up shlib version needs incidental affection and it's large change at this time. Conflicts: libc6 (= 2.3.2.ds1-21), libc6.1 (= 2.3.2.ds1-21) I think that'll work... but make sure apt can cope. We don't need any additional Conflicts because: (1) the current schedutils has Depends: libc6 (= 2.3.2.ds1-4), and it works finely with libc6 2.3.2.ds1-21 because -21 also has old GLIBC_2.3.3 sched_{get,set}affinity symbols. (2) new schedutils has Depends: libc6 (= 2.3.2.ds1-21) and Build-Depends: libc6 (= 2.3.2.ds1-21). It needs new libc6 -21, and it uses GLIBC_2.3.4 sched_{get,set}affinity. So I would like to change as follows: (1) glibc -21 has new sched_{get,set}affinity at last. (2) New schedutils should be released until sarge release with the attached patch. (3) fakeroot does not need to be modified because it does not have any explicit sched_*affinity. It seems schedutils is the only affected package. I put new -21 and schedutils at: http://www.gotom.jp/~gotom/debian/glibc/2.3.2.ds1-21_i386.sched/ Steve, how about this thought? Do you want to bump up glibc shlib version rathar than my small hack? I would like to hear your opinion from the RM point of view.
