Bug#316477: apache2-mpm-worker fails to execute any CGIs!

Justification: renders package unusable
With mpm-worker and cgid, CGIs can't execute, because somewhere compiled
into the code is that path /var/run/cgisock which is quite different
from the /var/run/apache2/cgisock that comes specified in the cgid.conf
file! Without doing an strace, I would never have been able to figure

Bug#315923: Workaround
Here is a workaround that appears to solve all of the problems I mentioned in the initial report. This is necessarily specific to a Dell Dimension 8400 with similar BIOS (mine is version A01 of 07/17/04). 1. Before booting the install disk, enter the BIOS "System Setup". 2. Using the menu, select "Drives". 3. From the resulting submenu, select "SATA Operation". 4. From the 4 operation modes offered, select RAID Autodetect / ATA . The other three options are RAID Autodetect / AHCI RAID On Combination 5. Boot the install disk. 6. At the prompt, enter "expert26". Package: upgrade-reports Severity: serious Method: aptitude over ssh Upgrade date: Sat July 11th 2005 (started, not finished until the following week) uname -a: Linux tyreth.homelinux.org 2.4.26 #1 Mon Jul 26 17:03:33 EST 2004 i686 GNU/Linux I tried to upgrade a computer from Woody to Sarge remotely via SSH, but it failed during the ugprade process because dpkg stopped bpalogin. bpalogin is an unofficial login client for cable and ADSL connections on Telstra Bigpond, one of Australia's largest ISPs. Without a login client running, no internet traffic can pass to or from the machine. Once bpalogin stopped, my SSH session froze and the upgrade stalled at the next configuration question. The computer was disconnected from the internet for several days until the owner returned and was able to restart bpalogin at the console. After that, I was able to complete the upgrade and all services are now operating normally. Bpalogin must be treated the same way as SSH and other essential services: it must not be left in a stopped state while other packages are upgraded. But you are right that it won't work for woody and sarge chroots. I still believe it would be wrong to use --force-yes since that may override many valid errors while --allow-unauthenticated will only override the one error we're seeing. Perhaps we can detect wether we need the option, somehow? The first error message says something like: " Can't load shared object file libc.so.6 " The second error message says it can't find sda1. My hypothesis is that the necessary modules for my onboard SATA controller are no longer included in the initrd image. I HAVEN'T modified /etc/mkinitrd/mkinitrd.conf. I've a pretty common Asus K8V-X motherboard which SATA ctrler requires at least scsi_mod, sata_via and libata to work. Booting with the current kernel-image-2.6.8-amd64-generic image works fine. I have just tried to have a look at this one.
Unfortunately, I did not understand well the packaging:
1/ there seems to be a typo in debian/control:
Depends: ${perl:Depends}, ${shlibs:Depends}, liblocale-maketext-perl,
libkwiki-perl (>= 0.36-2)
Provides: libcgi-kwiki-perl
The new package is first called libkwiki-perl and then
libcgi-kwiki-perl. Moreover, it is not defined in debian/control :(
2/ kwiki seems to be a transition package as said in debian/changelog:
* Compatibility package to enable gentler transition between
old-style kwiki and new-style kwiki, also ensuring that new
users don't accidentally get into old-style kwiki.
and in the description:
This package is here to make sure people don't accidentally
start new Kwikis using the old-style CGI::Kwiki system.

If you are starting a new Kwiki, you DO NOT NEED this
package. Install the libkwiki-perl package instead.
3/ however, it doesn't use the classical way to make a smooth
transition, that is to say defining a dummy package kwiki depending on
the new libkwiki-perl package that replaces kwiki and conflicts kwiki.
4/ I have tried to make a submittable patch, but I noticed that 0.36-1
was using upstream's 0.18 release (I may have been mistaken).
As far as I am concerned, I thus think that this package is an
incomplete transition package. Did I misunderstood something?
The fact that the new replacement package was rejected by ftpmaster, and
I haven't completed repackaging yet. I'm working on it.
