I'm working on a script whose aim is to use pbuilder to build all the Debian
packages starting from a minimal chroot.

> AFAIK, the buildds are doing fine any more details you can give me
> to help diagnose the problem?

All this means is that the package built at some time in the past -- but
probably changes in postgresql since then have caused the package to start
failing to build.

> Not enough info... "works for me" :-O

I reproduced this using a standard pbuilder setup just before filing the bug
-- try that. I could send you the full build log if you want, though I don't
see anything else in there that would help.

Bug#334351: Bug in netplan?

2005-11-04 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Hi. Do you have time to look at the netplan memory error bug
(#334351) on http://bugs.debian.org/src:plan>? I suspect some
code error regarding nclients, as it seem to be used both as the
number of file descriptors in use (with select()), and as a buffer
size. Any clues to spare?

Bug#337392: chicken: eggs not installable via chicken-setup

2005-11-04 Thread Trent Buck
Package: chicken
Version: 1.63-2
Severity: grave

When using "sudo chicken-setup xlib" to download, compile and install xlib.egg,
chicken-setup runs "cp xlib.o /usr/lib/chicken", expecting the third clause to
be an existing directory. Under the current Debian package it is not a dir, so
xlib.o becomes the file "chicken" in /usr/lib.

This is trivial to fix by changing "usr/lib" in debian/chicken.dirs to
"usr/lib/chicken" (unconfirmed, still building).

You need netbase to be installed for /etc/protocols to be available.

Also, you need to make sure the package builds on a machine which is
offline, since requiring network access during a package build is a
serious problem -- although I haven't yet been able to check whether
that's the case here.

I'm still seeing the original build failure for

...
 debian/rules build

/usr/bin/perl Makefile.PL INSTALLDIRS=vendor

(use 'perl Makefile.PL TESTPORT=' to override this search)
checking '/dev/ttyS1' ... nope
checking '/dev/cua01' ... nope
checking '/dev/cua/b' ... nope
checking '/dev/tty1' ... nope
Could not find a serial port to use for testing.
Please specify one on the 'perl Makefile.PL' command line, like so:
perl Makefile.PL /dev/ttyS0

I can NMU this package - or rather I will NMU it; with a 3-day delay if
you don't answer, and without delay if you give me your okay. I'll use
the patch already supplied, just the changelog entry will be adjusted
and close #33, too.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Bug#337397: imagemagick: convert to postscript broken (also breaks a2ps!)

2005-11-04 Thread Juha Jäykkä
Package: imagemagick
Version: 6:6.2.4.5-0.2
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

ImageMagick's convert no longer can produce landscape pages. This
breaks the "-r" switch in a2ps, hence critical.

There seems to be no way of producing the line
%%Orientation: Landscape
in the output postscript file.

Also, both the documentation for "-gravity" switch and its
functionality are broken.

The doc says "see -geometry" (for this and that) but there is nothing
on the topic in -geometry's description. This is annoying.

The switch itself causes completely insane BBoxes in postscript
files. Using "convert foo.png -page A4 -gravity Center foo.ps"
produces a BBox which has all its coordinates negative! (At least when
given a suitably sized image as input.)

This problem causes generally a lot of wasted paper since the output
of a2ps is not what it's supposed to be. All these options used to
work in older versions.

The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:

Depends: libdb4.2-dev but it is not going to be installed

You should probably just drop the libdb4.1-dev instead of changing it
to libdb4.2-dev, since obviously the other Build-Depends already take
care of that.

Severity: grave
Version: 1.0-1

This package has tight versioned dependencies on an older version of
mozilla-thunderbird than is in testing. So it is blocking the new
version, and all of its security fixes, from reaching testing. It is
also uninstallable in unstable.

It's been a rather long time since a new mozilla-thunderbird package was
put in unstable, and this package has not been updated, so IMHO it's a
candidte for removal since it's not being maintained to an extent to
keep up with the versioned dependencies in it, and, apparently, nobody
actually uses it to notice that it's not installable.

Until there is a good reason why not, I intend to upload an NMU quite

Correct. This is already fixed in the rules file by changing the
separators for sed from "/" to ":".

I would not have expected anybody to try and build the manual themselves
though :-)

There are problems with bringing in python2.4-pgsql, see #334022.
However, I'll do an upload this weekend that removes 2.1 and 2.2 (this
has been waiting in the wings for some time until 2.4 was ready).

Hi

manderlbot is not installable in sid anymore due to libxmerl-erlang
being unavailable. The removals log mentions that it is incorporated in
the package erlang, so this dependency can probably be dropped.

Bug#337424: python-smbpasswd: Uninstallabe due to dep on python (>= 2.4)

2005-11-04 Thread Luk Claes

Hi

python-smbpasswd is not installable in sid as it depends on a too high
version of the package python. A dependency on python2.4 (or maybe
python2.4-minimal might suffice) might work, but only if usr/bin/python
is not used (you have to use usr/bin/python2.4 instead).

Cheers

Bug#337436: passivetex: destroys local configuration

2005-11-04 Thread Frank Küster
Package: passivetex
Severity: serious
Version: 1.25-2

The package has two serious bugs, and some normal ones:

1. The package has in its postinst the line:

/usr/bin/fmtutil --cnffile /usr/share/tetex-bin/fmtutil.cnf --all > /dev/null
2>&1

Beside the fact that it should use fmtutil-sys as soon as teTeX-3.0 is
in testing, and that it should not prepend a path to the binary, it has
   a major flaw:

It statically uses a template configuration file in
/usr/share/tetex-bin instead of the actual configuration file
(/var/lib/texmf/web2c/fmtutil.cnf, a file generated from files in
/etc/texmf/fmt.d). This does not make any sense at all, and it
creates formats according to the tetex-bin package default instead of
   local customization.

Furthermore, since passivetex is not listed anywhere in
/usr/share/tetex-bin/fmtutil.cnf, the line only recreates formats that
are already available anyway (created by tetex-bin's postinst script).

2. The postinst snippet below has the effect that if the local admin
   deletes the configuration file /etc/texmf/texmf.d/96passivetex.cnf,
it is resurrected from the template file, which is a violation of
   Policy 10.7.3:

if [ -f $conffile ] ; then
   :
elif [ -f $conffile.disable ]; then
mv $conffile.disable $conffile
else
cp $TMPLDIR/`basename $conffile` $conffile
fi

Furthermore, there is no Policy or tradition that a configuration
file with suffix disable is treated specially. Therefore it might
well be that local admin renamed the configuration file manually to
$conffile.disable, and this would also be destroyed by this snippet.

As a sidenote, it seems as if this configuration file has not been
updated for years - the main_memory setting for passivetex is obviously
supposed to increase the available memory size for initex, but in fact
it is only half the size as the setting for all other programs.

3. In the prerm script, the configuration file discussed above is moved
to $conffile.disable. This is not necessary, since texmf variable
settings for programs that won't be run don't do any harm.
Furthermore, after this is done, the program update-fmtutil is
called, but for the change to have an effect update-texmf would be
needed. This is only of normal severity, but when it's fixed the
postrm script has to be adapted.

I don't know how passivetex is actually used, but the Makefile in the
examples directory calls xsltproc from the package of the same name,
without Depending on it, or listing it in Suggests/Recommends.

Regards, Frank

Adding netbase to the Build-Depends allows the package to build. But
if the messages about pear.php.net indicate that network access is
currently required to build the package, this is a serious problem
also.

This is probably because dpkg-source doesn't preserve permissions on
patched files. You need to either execute chmod +x on the script
before it gets executed, or manually invoke the appropriate
interpreter on it instead.

Bug#337481: mythvideo: uninstallable -- depens on unavailable package libqt3c102-mt

2005-11-04 Thread Magnus Ihse
Package: mythvideo
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I can't install mythvideo. When trying, I get:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
mythvideo: Depends: libqt3c102-mt (>= 3:3.3.4) but it is not installable
E: Broken packages

I tried manually installing libqt3c102-mt:

Package libqt3c102-mt is not available, but is referred to by another
package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
However the following packages replace it:
  libqt3-mt
E: Package libqt3c102-mt has no installation candidate

The same goes for several other of the mythtv components, except for the
"basic" mythtv system, and mythgallery. The ones I've tried to install and
failed are: mythmusic, mythvideo, mythdvd, mythbrowser, mythnews.

Other packages might also be problematic.

There seems to be some kind of confusion regarding the libqt3 package. My
guess is that libqt3c102-mt has been replaced with libqt3-mt, but only a
few of the MythTV packages has been updated to reflect this change.
mythtv-frontend, for instance, requires libqt3-mt (>= 3:3.3.4)
instead of libqt3c102-mt.

On the other hand, I'm no apt expert, so it might be some kind of plain
stupid user error on my part. I apologize if that is so.

Is there any progress with this bug?

I just installed the latest version in unstable after the kde etch transition
banished the old working version. I have both the xine and gstreamer parts
installed and neither work. Is a new upload forthcoming?

Bug#337073: tex-common doesn't install (can't chmod ls-R file)

2005-11-04 Thread Frank Küster
Hi all,

I have finally sorted this all out.

Frank Küster <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

> The strange thing is that it is so hard to reproduce. It depends on the

this is true...

> so it means it depends on whether the config

> postinst script.

But this not. The true reason is that with apt-utils, the config script
is actually run twice: Once before preinst, and once from the postinst
script, as without apt-utils. This is always the case, and it's one
more reason why maintainer script need to be idempotent (behave the same
if run several times).

Ours wasn't idempotent, but i have already fixed this: The reason was
the same why the default "cache" wasn't displayed on a fresh install, or
in other words our unconditional db_set call, even if no ls-R files are
present.

So what I need to do now is to create proper ls-R files (with the magic
comment) if they don't exist, prior to chmod'ing.

Should I also create the ls-R-files that are not managed by debconf? I
think we should leave this to mktexlsr.

Regards, Frank

Bug#337382: installation-guide: FTBFS: sed: unknown option to 's'

2005-11-04 Thread Frans Pop
severity 337382 important
thanks

Downgrading this issue. As the installation-guide is arch all, it does not
need to be build on the buildd's and is therefore less critical. It
should at least not block the current version from moving to testing.

Thanks, while looking at the build-depends, I noticed superfluous
build-deps which are present only because of a borken
evolution-data-server. If you don't mind, nautilus-sendto will wait
 for a fixed evolution-data-server.

   Cheers,

Could you somehow have QT_NO_CAST_ASCII defined while building? Looking in
qstring.h, it should be using this operator+ on line 1050:
inline const QString operator+( const char *s1, const QString &s2 )

Your build doesn't appear to be finding that, though. Since the definition is
wrapped in a #ifndef QT_NO_CAST_ASCII, it seems like having that defined
while building could cause your build failure.

...

A quick grep -r through the kdenetwork sources shows that this appears to be
defined in all the kopete Makefile.am's and Makefile.in's, but not in any
other kdenetwork packages. So, I wonder how the buildd's built it?

my build command containts -DQT_NO_CAST_ASCII -DQT_NO_ASCII_CAST and

then mv -f ".deps/addresseeitem.Tpo" ".deps/addresseeitem.Plo"; else rm

But this "article"
(http://lists.trolltech.com/qt-interest/2004-03/msg01059.html) explains
why it's interesting to have this defines.
