Bug#347701: nanourl bug
Package: nanourl Version: 0.1-6 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable I noticed apache2 was not running. The error message on trying to restart apache2 led me to Bug#339323: apache2-common: Looking at that bug report and /etc/init.d/apache2 I tried /usr/sbin/apache2ctl which told me there was an error in the nanourl script. (This may be due to the fact that I don't have mysql installed on this machine). I uninstalled nanourl and apache2 started working. Considering this worthy of a bug investigation I reinstalled nanourl. Now /etc/init.d/apache2 gives me: Forcing reload of apache 2.0 web server...grep: /etc/apache2/conf.d/nanourl: No such file or directory ... failed! Removing nanourl allows apache2 to run again. Bug#347703: Error while Refreshing folder: Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync
Package: evolution Version: 2.4.2.1-1 Severity: grave Yesterday when I did my daily upgrade, I got the new evolution 2.4 package. When I started to start it, it froze. (See #347672: evolution: Evolution 2.4.2.1 freezes on startup) I did not have the time to debug it, so I just downgraded to the testing version (2.2.something), and then the problem was over. Today I decided to give it another try. I upgraded again. This time it did not freeze, but gave this error: Error while Refreshing folder: Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync. In the list of mail, each one seems to be duplicated. If I click on one, it says Unable to retrieve message Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync. ... so it's still unusable. Bug#347584: Bug#347585: Bug#308812: winbind should depend on samba (smbclient)?
Hi all, On Thu, Jan 12, 2006 at 06:47:09AM +0100, Christian Perrier wrote: So, I hereby propose: 1) close #308812 and #347584 with Version: 3.0.20b-3 Yes, closing 308812 since this dependency has now been added. And also close 347584 which is the samedoing so right now. (I had already closed #347584 which I mistakenly cloned, but that does not really matter anyway) Both #308812 and #347585 still affect sarge, which is currently our official release. Under normal circumstances I don't usually care about bugs being closed if they are in stable but fixed in unstable (and possibly testing). However, both of these simply make the software plain unusable. I'd suggest reopening #308812 and then tagging sarge and fixed, so it stays documented in BTS. And perhaps rebuild for sarge with necessary dependency and upload to proposed-updates, though I'm not sure without checking what qualifications are these days for non-security issues to still get through to stable point releases. 2) lower #347585 to important I don't do it right now because I really want to understand why you cloned the bug. I believe this one should still be left open, and at the present severity. Well, my rationale is that #347585 is not about a missing dependency but about a missing directory, which only affects those people who use winbind without samba. Which is a perfectly fine use case. Winbind is about authenticating (anything) to AD. As I wanted pppd on a VPN gateway to do so, I had no need for samba on this machine, at all. If I want squid to use NTLM auth, I have no need for samba. If I want cyrus to use NTLM auth, ... You can guess it. Heck, even on a workstation where I would want to use NTLM auth I probably would not want to install samba or possibly even a samba client (be it smbmount or smbclient). Additionally, while the ntlm_auth binary complains when it is affected by #308812, winbind just dies with no explanation whatsoever because of #347585 - even when using debuglevel up to 2048. It took an invocation with strace to find it out why. The solution to #347585 is not another dependency but rather /var/run/samba included in winbind so one may argue that, seen this way, the bug is something that has a major effect on the usability of a package, without rendering it completely unusable to everyone.:-) I'd argue it makes winbind completely unusable in the use case which is according to the description of the package the reason why it exists. Anyway, this is arguing: fixing this give us an opportunity to upload a new version which I was already considering given that the former one has reached testing. Ack :) However, as explained above, just closing (by whatever method) the bugs is IMHO inappropriate given that they both affect stable. This makes your package fail to build from source. [1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/11/msg00022.html To fix this bug, you need to update your build-dependencies and substitute xlibs-dev for the list of individual X development libraries that your package needs to be built. You can find detailed information about how to do that in the DependsXlibsDev wiki page [2]. [2] http://wiki.debian.org/DependsXlibsDev As indicated by the Release Team [3], the full transition from XFree86 to Xorg is a release blocker for Etch, which means that Etch will not be released until this bug is fixed (or your package removed from testing). So, please, try to fix in a timely manner. [3] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/10/msg4.html The number of affected packages by the xlibs-dev transition is huge, so if you feel like helping with patches or uploads, feel free to follow the instructions contained in the wiki page above. A list of affected packages can be found here [4]. [4] http://people.debian.org/~adeodato/release-usertag/transition-xlibs-dev Finally, if there's a strong reason for which your package should not be NMUed, please note so in this bug report. Prospective NMUers will read your reasoning, and will decide if it's strong enough to delay their upload. Bug#308812: Bug#347585: Bug#308812: winbind should depend on samba (smbclient)?
reopen 308812 tags 308812 sarge thanks Both #308812 and #347585 still affect sarge, which is currently our official release. Under normal circumstances I don't usually care about bugs being closed if they are in stable but fixed in unstable (and possibly testing). However, both of these simply make the software plain unusable. Yes. Point taken. And action done. Yep. That's a fair point and I understand it. But, again, I think that this doesn't deserve a RC bug. Apparently Steve disagrees but anyway this hasn't much importance except by showing that judgements about bug severities may vary. And given that Steve is the release manager, he would anyway have the last word on such issue...:-) Additionally, while the ntlm_auth binary complains when it is affected by #308812, winbind just dies with no explanation whatsoever because of #347585 - even when using debuglevel up to 2048. It took an invocation with strace to find it out why. Wow. Sounds like something we could report upstream. Anyway, this is arguing: fixing this give us an opportunity to upload a new version which I was already considering given that the former one has reached testing. Ack :) Will do ASAP -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#347585: Bug#308812: winbind should depend on samba (smbclient)?
I'd argue it makes winbind completely unusable in the use case which is according to the description of the package the reason why it exists. Hmmm, I wonder whether this could justify an update for the next sarge update? Steve? Indeed, 308812 should then be RC as well. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The mailing list archives of ipw2100 suggest that there have been issues with 64 Bit kernels before, although these seem to be long resolved. Bug#343186: nvidia-kernel-source: Confirmed also for 8178 on Toshiba 5100
Package: nvidia-kernel-source Version: 1.0.7174-4 Followup-For: Bug #343186 I've tried 8178, either pre-built (from debian archive) or locally built with module-assistant. nvidia-glx was upgraded to proper version (8178). My card is supported by the drivers (GeForce 2Go 440, pci id 0x0174). Attempt to start X with new nvidia.ko results in immediate hard lockup (even before nvidia logo is shown). /var/log/Xorg.0.log does not survive subsequent fsck or not created at all. Attempt to start X from remote machine (over ssh) shows only first 10 or so lines of Xorg log, which does not say anything. I'v tried this: * with all options for Device nvidia in xorg.cong commented out. * with NvAGP set to 0, 1 or 2 * with agpgart/intel_agp loaded or without them Every time the outcome is the same - hard lockup. Apparently, filesystem caches are not flushed properly, since fsck reports a lot of lost/orphaned inodes each time, and sometimes removes xorg.conf to /lost+found. Being afraid for my filesystem integrity, I haven't done any further checks. Could provide you with additional info, if any is required. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.14-2-686 Locale: LANG=ru_UA.KOI8-U, LC_CTYPE=ru_UA.KOI8-U (charmap=KOI8-U) Versions of packages nvidia-kernel-source depends on: ii debhelper 5.0.15 helper programs for debian/rules ii dpatch2.0.16 patch maintenance system for Debia ii make 3.80+3.81.b4-1 The GNU version of the make util ii sed 4.1.4-5The GNU sed stream editor Versions of packages nvidia-kernel-source recommends: ii devscripts2.9.10 Scripts to make the life of a Debi ii kernel-package10.031 A utility for building Linux kerne ii nvidia-glx1.0.7174-4 NVIDIA binary XFree86 4.x driver -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#347750: kino: Postinst fails unless udev is installed.
Package: kino Version: 0.80-1 Severity: serious Justification: Breaks upgrades. Upgrading kino to 0.80-1 breaks with a failure in postinst on any system that doesn't have udev installed. It tries to install a symlink in /etc/udev/rules.d/, but this directory only exists when udev is also present. The postinst checks for /etc/udev before trying to create the symlink, but with kino shipping /etc/udev/kino.rules, this check is always true. You can either make kino depend on udev, or refine the check. In the latter case, however, I wonder what happens if udev is installed on a system where kino is already present. Does udev itself create the necessary symlink in this case? Regards, Daniel. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi, this makes firefox FTBFS. Linking takes about 200 minutes on an 800MHz machine, but the buildd kills it after 150 minutes without output. Maybe the time limit should be raised as a workaround? Bug#281639: Good news on the sed docs
I am pleased to say that both of the authors of the sed manual have agreed to dual-license it under the GPL. A notice to this effect should be present in the next upstream release of sed. In the meantime you can use these quotes from their emails in reply to the message with the subject Would you consider dual-licensing the sed docs?, which is preserved earlier in the bug trail: (Paolo Bonzini) No problem from me, though I believe that manuals without Invariant Sections are free IMHO. Is there a package that is already dual-licensing, so that I can copy the boilerplate stuff? Paolo (The answer was that I couldn't find one, but I suggested some boilerplate to him.) (Ken Pizzini) You're still willing to license them under the GPL too though? Yes. --Ken Pizzini So, one RC bug nearly done. -- Nathanael Nerode [EMAIL PROTECTED] [Insert famous quote here] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi, Has any progess been made with this four month old RC bug? I have seen no activity since the original filing, and it's still unfixed. If it's not a bug in your package, why was it not assigned to ruby1.8? I have now filed a new bug against ruby1.8-dev (mkmf.rb), but as the maintainer this should have been your responsibility. Bug#346764: xbubble: FTBFS: build-depends on removed xlibs-dev
Hi, You wrote: Note that the last one is not really needed by the build, but only by the configury I use as upstream maintainer and that I should probably fix. Any help welcome on this one, too ;) As you probably noticed, configure's AC_PATH_X checks for something in the libxt-dev package (X11/Intrinsic.h and XtMalloc). We've fixed this in the Debian autoconf 2.59a-4 package, and upstream has accepted that patch for 2.60. So if you just rebuild your configure scripts with a newer version of autoconf the build dependency on libxt-dev can probably be dropped.
