Yes, actually, that does run. It doesn't work entirely properly,
though. As in, it will bring the interface up automatically, but will
not close it.
First, try starting it up like like so:
/etc/init.d/ifplugd start interface
No: Usage: /etc/init.d/ifplugd
{start|stop|restart|force-reload|status|suspend|resume} No option for
arguments.
You need to specify the additional argument of the interface name for
interfaces that fall under HOTPLUG_INTERFACES, (which is all of them in
your config).
If that fails, then try ...
sh -x /etc/init.d/ifplugd start interface
... which will produce lots of output which you should paste in your
response to this message.

This looks suspiciously like the first argument to the init script was
usb0. If your interface is usb0, make sure you are using:
sh -x /etc/init.d/ifplugd start usb0
Now, if /etc/init.d/ifplugd start interface *does* work, then run ...
ACTION=add INTERFACE=interface sh -x /etc/hotplug.d/net/ifplugd.hotplug
... which again will produce lots of output which you should paste/attach

Skipped this part, for reasons outlined above.
Let's go ahead and try it. If your interface is usb0, make sure ifplugd
is not running and invoke:

Note: make sure that you substitute interface with the name of your
interface in all the commands listed above.

Now, here's another thing: For some reason related to kernel upgrades,
I now have a 'zaurus' kernel module. At the moment, not having worked
out the automatic loading/unloading (no real time ATM), I load it by
hand, not wishing to dump it into /etc/modules and forget about it. It
therefore stays loaded regardless of whether or not it's needed. Does
ifplugd care about modules coming and going as required?
This doesn't sound like it would be a problem.

Attached is the diff for the NMU I'm planning on doing on sourcenav in a
few minutes. It closes two RC bugs in the package.
The actual .diff.gz of the source package is going to be bigger, because
I had to regenerate two configure scripts, and that changed lots of line
number, even if no actual interesting changes happened apart from the
ones in this diff.

Not necessarily. 127.0.0.1 is the network loopback device, so *any* program on that machine which accesses the outside world via squid will show as 127.0.0.1 in the squid log, not just squid-prefetch as you imply. True. I don't use the loopback interface for connecting to squid from user clients, so I don't have that ambiguity. You can usually differentiate between clients and squid-prefetch by the log line itself. The first access by squid-prefetch will always be a TCP_HIT/200 or TCP_MISS/504 (I think it's 504). After that will be the prefetches. Or... just run it from the command line so you can see STDOUT. Kernel 2.6.15 failed to boot; in an older kernel 2.6.8 on the same hardware the system booted fine. downgrading libc6 from 2.3.6-2 to 2.3.5-13 solved the problem. Have you regenerated the initrd image after downgrading this package? It is the only place where libc6 is used _before_ the root filesystem is mounted. Have you made any other changes when downgrading? I'm really sorry that I can't pinpoint the problem better... good luck!! Frits PS: I've also installed udev 0.084-5, hal 0.5.6-4 and dbus 0.60.5 in case that's of any help.. Are you sure udev is not the cause of your problems? Looks more probable. No news from bug submitter for 2 weeks, and we received no similar feedback, thus lowering the severity of this bug. That means that this bug is not release-critical: AIUI, the current copyright statement in the package is correct but incomplete (since some parts currently listed under a different license are now *also* available under the BSL), which isn't a reason to keep the package out of the release.
